July Favourites

Morning!

Good gosh, welcome to August.

Hey, remember how everyone last year was freaking out about 2012 being that last year in the world? Is that still happening? Haven’t heard about that in a while. Not that I care. It was just weird to hear people yammer on about that for centuries.

I’m excited about this coming month, its still summer and hopefully exciting things will be happening over here.

Since yesterday was WIAW, I missed out on telling you all about my July favourites.

Avocado

Self explanatory. This pudding is my life. Sub cottage cheese with greek yogurt though.

Coconut Butter

(Instagram is too fun – follow me!)

What is not to love about this butter? It is simple a whole lot of nice stuff. Creamy, delicious, and all the lovely benefits that come from coconut. I’m talking about improved hair, nails, skin, stress relief, digestion, and helps to prevent osteoporosis. Just to name a few positives.

Reuniting with Creamy Buckwheat Breakfast Bowls

Specifically, grinding up my buckwheat in my coffee grinder before hand (is it weird I have a coffee bean grinder, but no coffee maker?) and creating an oat bran consistency. Then cooking it up the same way I normally do with oat bran. Lovely.

Cut Out Dresses

These may not be fan favourite dress for everyone, but I personally am just loving the cut out style. Definitely not a work dress, but a going out dress. Subtle, yet fierce statement in clothing.

Bright Nails

I just love funky nails. Keeps things sassy. I also like the word sassy now. My love affair with bright polish was re-sparked when an older lady commented saying my nails made her smile.

Bachelor Pad

(Source)

Since the Bachelorette has sadly ended. Well, I guess happily for Emily, not so much for my Monday night TV love, I’ve had to rely on Bachelor Pad to keep me entertained. Its a hot mess of a show. I can’t believe some of the things people do on this show. How on earth can they land a job after some of the stuff aired on TV? And did anyone else recognize the twins from Jersey Shore? Oh man.

Honouring My Body

(Source)

This one is probably the most important favourite. When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I really want to do is get my workout on. I love having the option to get my exercise over first thing and having the rest of the day to do as I please.

That being said, with some health issues I’m working on improving, fitness has had to take a back seat. And while I don’t exactly like that I’m moving less, I know its the best for my body right now.

Pilates, yoga, and a weight training has become more of my fitness routine right now. Fitness will always be there for me when I am better and I know that while I’m not doing such high intensity right now, as soon as I’m healthy I can get back on board with those crossfit and high intensity workouts that I crave!

  1. I am glad you are excited for this month. I do love the cut out dresses, they just look beautiful on some people. Keep up your hard work and focus!

  2. Bright colored nails make me super happy :) One of my favorite things about the summer months.

  3. Love Jessica Alba! That’s such a pretty dress.

  4. Love the recap Lisa… overall it seems like you had a great month and plenty of awesome posts to boot! The cut out dresses are rather cute, as are bright nails, perfect for summer of course!

  5. I love the recap, lady! You are making me want to try this avocado pudding. and those dresses are super sexy!!! I am glad you are listening to your body, too.. so important :)

    • Avocado Pudding is so tasty! Yep, I’m realizing how important it is to listen to my bodies cues!

  6. Ooh, that pudding sounds perfect right now! I’ve tried several chocolate-avocado pudding recipes, but haven’t ever thrown protein powder into the mix–love it! I’ll definitely be giving your version a try. :-)

I love love love bright nails right now! Mine have been neon all summer long (usually pink, orange or coral). Coconut butter IS amazing; I’m actually enjoying some on top of a pumpkin-coconut protein bar as I type this. :) And I have yet to watch Bachelor Pad, despite my obsession with The Bachelor and Bachelorette. Am I missing out big time? ;)

Girl, I am SO proud of you for honoring your body! You’re amazing. And I KNOW that when you’re ready, you’re going to come back stronger than you’ve ever been! Love you!! <3

    • The addition of protein powder makes it taste a bit better and makes it more filling in my opinion!
Bright nails are the best! I went to the salon today and they seem to be all the rage this season.
Ohhh yum. Coconut butter on a pumpkin coconut protein bar sounds like the tastiest thing ever! Is that the protein bar recipe on your site? I’m going to have to try it!
Bavhelor Pad actually isn’t too great this season! I’m a tad bit disappointed haha.

  7. Ahhh 2012!! It’s one of those things I never think about, but I easily get suckered into documentaries then believe it’s really going to happen. I know, I’m ridiculous ;)

  8. Love this recap! I’m totally with you on the coconut and avocado loving!!! Healthy fats all the way! I can’t believe we’re in August! I might have to bookmark this post just to have all your fabulous positivity posts from July in one place! I can’t get enough of them!

  9. Oh gosh… I think my favorite part of July had been the “dessert” smoothies. I’m addicted to my carrot cake protein shake and the oatmeal cookie is a close second!

    • I’ve definitely still got to try out that carrot cake protein shake! Its been bookmarked for far too long over here…now to pick up some carrots on my next grocery trip:)

  10. Love this! I’m so excited about August too. I have a feeling it’s going to be an amazing month. (:
I’m loving cut-out dresses right now too! I definitely don’t think they’re for everyone, and you have to find a classy-looking style, but they can be SO cute.

PS: I totally forgot that the world is ending this year. haha!

    • I feel the same way about August!
Yep, cut out dresses are adorable! I need to find a cute one…I’m still on the hunt.
Haha, I wonder if the world will actually end?!;)

  11. I bought coconut oil a few weeks ago. So far I’ve only used it once (in a baked oatmeal recipe). I need more ideas!

    • You have got to try roasting vegetables in them! I love the taste they get after being roasted in coconut oil. I also cook turkey burgers or omelettes in coconut oil as well. And they make a great replacement for butter!

  12. Is IS hilarious that you have a coffee grinder and no coffee maker, that didn’t even cross my mind. I really want to grind up my buckwheat now because I’m allergic to oat bran and I love it!

You know I love Bachelor Pad. Those twins were the biggest train wreck. I’m not sure why the show even put them on. ABC is usually just a tiny bit classier. A tiny bit.

I LOVE that quote. I’m gonna stick it on Pinterest if I can figure out how.

    • Haha, I know I’m just a weirdo!;)
Definitely try to grind the buckwheat, it rocks!
Haha, oh my! The twins were just the most outrageous thing I’ve seen in a long time. It was hard to watch at times! Haha, they are usually a tiny bit classier. Guess they just messed it up on this one.

  13. I love bright nails too!

  14. Looked like July was an alright month I’d say, and I loved you recap!

Coconut and avocado are wonderful things! Mixing avocado with nooch- an idea I nabbed from you- is definitely one of my <3's this month- I want to slather myself and everything else in it.

Whereas I wouldn't wear a cut-out dress( not my style/too daring for myself), you'd look totally sassy in one:), and def pull it off, you should get one.

And here's to the continuation of honouring your body!
    Xxx

    • I know what you mean about the avocado and nooch. So dang tasty! Who knew those two things would be such heaven in my mouth.
Well thank you lady! I need to find a cut out dress first:)

  15. I love those cut-out dresses too! Sadly, I really don’t go out much and since I just got my first big girl job, I can’t see wearing one as appropriate just like ya said!!

Good job listening to your body, I know it can be hard I can relate but in the end it will all be worth it!! Our bodies were made to work, but also to rest:)

    • Haha, yah they are totally meant more as a going out dress I believe!
Its definitely hard to listen to the bod, but I know it will be a positive thing in the end!

  16. Dude seriously, where did July even go?!?! I’m in such a time warp haha
Love this recap post and heck ya to glorious avocado!!! :) That pudding is calling my name haha
    Have a great night girl!

  17. Great job for listening to what your body needs girl. I know it can be hard to do @ times, but it’s only for the best. Oh I love cut-out dresses. They are adorable.. and I so wish I had one!

My favorite time in July was obv my birthdayy :-)

  18. I love cutout dresses…they’re hard to pull off, but they look amazing.

  19. Just found your blog via Meg and added you to my reader!!!

Great quote ‘you are perishable’. I guess I have never realized that this applies to humans AND food. Duh!

I’ve yet to try coconut butter, only oil, so I imagine its a dream!

    • Happy you found me!:)
Coconut is one of my favourite foods! You need to get your hands on some, you’ll never go back, I swear!

  20. Def love the honoring your body in July! I love those bright nails, but I just can’t get myself to do it! I wear gloves all day, so it is kinda pointless. My fav thing about July was my birthday… duh! ;) Have a great weekend girl!

    • Oh yah haha, I guess gloves kind of waste the point in seeing pretty nails;)
Yep, birthday months are always the BEST months!!
