A New Toy

Time for another addition of What I Ate Wednesday, thanks to the lovely Jenn.

Today started with SPIN. We had a sub today, which was a great change. More my style of music, so I got to jam out to my favourite tunes. I also got to test out my new heart monitor ,which I got for my birthday! I was a little too pumped about using this for class this morning.

I love playing around with new toys like this, and getting everything set up. I’m like a 6 year old. It kind of reminded me of playing with those tamagotchi things. Did anyone else love those? I had about 6 of them.

Just a random tangent for you all…

(I blurred out the calories, because I don’t want any comparisons or anything happening.)

Last week I also had my heart rate zone tested last week, to make sure I know when I’m in my strength or endurance zone. Which I highly recommend doing by the way.

I came home and all of a sudden felt the urge to clean out my closet. Does that ever happen to anyone else? I ended up spending about 30 minutes cleaning out some things before I thought I should probably get some breakfast in.

Breakfast – 8:

I made a batch of granola pancakes for breakfast, that I topped with sun butter. Winner, even though they were slightly burnt.

I probably should have made 2 smaller ones, instead of a giant one.

Later, I got ready and got my coffee on. Awesome, as always.

I had a serious hankering for some socca when I returned home. I decided to roll with it and made a simple socca for lunch.

Lunch – 12:

Socca cooked in coconut oil with a side of kale chips and cauliflower that was roasted in coconut oil, nutritional yeast and a little almond flour. Side of mashed avocado.

One of my favourite simple lunches to have.

Today was the first real day that its felt like Fall with the cooler weather and a slight breeze in the air, so my sister and I decided to go on a little Halloween spree.

We went to Michael’s and picked out a few fun things to decorate the house with.

Including some scented candles. I had a hard time choosing which ones I wanted, but decided with “pumpkin pie” and “fall foliage”.

Snack – 3:

Once home, I snacked on an apple with a few cookie dough balls.

To be honest, these past few days have been really hard for me emotionally, and I really didn’t feel like eating at this time. However, I sucked it up and prepared something anyways. I didn’t picture Dinner, since I wasn’t really in the photographing mood.

Right now I just want to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea, and of course will have a little something more substantial before bed tonight.

What’s the best thing you ate today?

Do you prefer savoury or sweet style snacks?

Happy Wednesday!

Yes, I am a sweet snack lover too! Homemade good are always the best.
      Thanks for the support Chelsea!!

  2. Looks like you are doing pretty good on the eating front though, especially considering the rough time that you’ve been having. It’s fall- Everything gets better with fall, so no worries :) Just make some pumpkin apple streusel muffins, breathe in the holiday spirit and enjoy yourself!

I haven’t eaten yet today, so no food to share yet. But I am definitely a sweet over savory kind of gal! Dessert please!

    • Thanks for the words. Its definitely getting better, but I still go through some hard days. I think most of us are sweet snackers:)

  3. Love all the meals! Those cookie dough balls sound fantastic and you reminded me that I still have to try socca! I hope today is a better day for you and I’m sorry these days have been tough for you! Always here for you! Hugs!

  4. I always go for sweet snacks – my sweet tooth is a tad insatiable. :-p

Sorry to hear you’ve had a rough couple of days! Hoping you bounce back soon <3

  5. those cookie dough balls look amazing! glad you pushed through those tough thoughts!

  6. Stephanie says:

The last few days have been rough for me emotionally, too. I’m proud of you for eating anyway. My love to you, Lisa. Stay strong, I’m rooting for you from afar. <3

Oh! Did you hear about Lady Gaga!?

  7. I love the glitter skull!! and yes I did have a tamagachi haha

  8. That pancake looks so thick and dense, just like I like ‘em! Yum! I usually like more sweet snacks… Even if they aren’t sugar loaded, I prefer fruits, yogurt, cereal, etc.

  9. OH MY GOSH YESSS Tamogachis! My friends and I were obsessed and used to trade them all the time. My mom got sooo annoyed hahaha. LOVE that shiny silver skull from Michaels! I’m so proud of you for sticking with this. You KNOW your body is going to thank you in the long run. :-) We’ll Skype tomorrow (for real!) and you’ll feel on top of the world from our energy transfers. ;-) LOVE YOU, BABE!

  10. So far the best thing I ate was Oatmeal with peanut butter and bananas! I also need to open all my new “toys” right away! Some things never change ;-)

  11. I’m sorry oyu’re struggling at the moment, beautiful Lisa. Hope you feel better very soon!
It was so thoughtful of you to bur out the calories, really. I really appreciate that.
Take care, you can make it through these tough times. Never forget, you’re not alone in this. We’re all with you and having your back. <3

    • Thanks Kat! I’m sure I’ll be back to my regular self soon!
No problem, I know it can be a little triggering to others to see calories burn and I don’t want anyone to feel that comparison!

  12. Beautiful eats as always! The best thing I’ve had today was a cup of red tea with some vanilla. Warm and cozy on this rainy Chicago morning!

  13. I like to use my HRM just to see how hard I’m working. It’s crazy to see the difference in stats between a workout/class I half-ass compared to a workout/class where I bust ass!!
However, a while back, I had to stop using it because I kept wanting to beat my “score.” No good.

    • Totally agree! It blows my mind the differences I have. And just seeing how I ride when my energy is lower or higher. Yah, I kind of get the sense I may need to back off using it if I ever get that competition side coming out! Hope it doesn’t happen though.

  14. aww I’m so with you on just not being in the mood to eat. I’ve been also making myself have my snacks :) LOVE my HRM– it’s fun to see how many calories you burn. Enjoy it!

  15. i like both! i know i am weird. the sweet and salty fix is the best. I think that is why i like PB so much.
Have fun with your toy, i love mine too!

    • Sometimes I definitely get the salt and sweet craving! Not all the time though, usually just for dinner actually. Like eggs and almond butter rock together!

  16. I love new ‘scientific’ tools too! :) Yay for a new HR monitor. Looks cool.

I agree-knowing the HR zones are super helpful–and very beneficial for fitness goals!

  17. I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t been feeling the best, love :( If you ever need to chat or vent, I’d love to talk to you so don’t hesitate to drop me a line :)

I remember Tamagotchi’s! I had a hot pink one with a green border, and I only got a good pet once when I first started because after that I basically started neglecting them and always got the garbage pets lol. And when it comes to snacks, I prefer mine sweet. I swear I’d eat sweet meals all day if I didn’t feel the need to get at least -some- veggies in.

    • Thanks for the support Amanda! May need to drop you an e-mail sometime! I know we can relate a lot!
My sweet tooth is definitely raging all the time, even as a kid, I always passed the chips for chocolate!

  18. Hope you are feeling better girl, sorry to hear : ( Life too short to waste a day not feeling good, but I know we all have those times.

Love the cookie dough ball, looks good!

    Happy Wednesday! <3

  19. Think I was obsessed with Tamagotchi’s- I was all, ‘ sorry mum, I can’t wash the dishes tonight. I have to feed, then walk my Tamagotchi. Then it has to go potty’. Baha.
I like your HRM, it’s nice & girly, suits you:). I’m seriously considering getting one myself, but I’m a little worried I’d get too caught up in the numbers,( feel guilty if I didn’t burn as many cals as the day before, etc), I don’t want it to make working out less enjoyable for me, if you know what I mean.

I really hate to hear you haven’t been feeling great lately:(, especially during your favourite month of the year! I hope you have people near you that you can open up to , a good support system to help you through the emotional yuckiness.

I crave socca all the time too! I can’t believe I didn’t think I liked it to begin with. Craziness. The combination of it, with nooch and ripe avocado is ah-maaazing.
And I’m loving the glitzy skull!
    Xxx

    • Ha ha! Yes, I totally used to do the same. Then I’d just fotget about it and let it die. Oops.
I definitely understand the worry, I haven’t had that problem yet. But I know it could happen. So if it does, I know I’ll have to back off using the HRM.
I’m starting to feel better which is great!

  20. The best thing that I’m going to eat.. is going to be cake later on today! :P

  21. GIRL I LOVE going to Michael’s this time of year too– it’s so dangerous for my wallet haha! I can never resist all the awesome halloween stuff!
“However, I sucked it up and prepared something anyways.” <–WAY TO GO LISA!!!!!! That's a huge step right there, you should be so proud of yourself for battling those inner demons and doing what is right for your body :)
    Sending love your way!

  22. Lisa I am so sorry you have been feeling less than stellar recently! I totally get it though and as I always say, take comfort in knowing there are others going through this too… and also people that are on your side and rooting for you! That is me :) Your meals do look great as usual too, cookie dough balls, that reminds me that I need to make some for myself soon!

    • Thanks Tessa! I need to add that recipe sometime soon!
I go through times where I feel good and then not so good. I’m sure I’ll be back to normal soon though!

  23. I’m sorry you have been having a rough past couple of days!! Hang in there girl! Your pancake has me salivating!

  24. Aww…so sorry to hear that you’re not your vibrant, fun-loving self! Hope you feel better soon!

  25. I love my HR monitor! Yours is SO much better though. I’m sorry you’ve been feeling down lately. I’m always here if you want to chat <3

  26. So glad you were able to eat, even though you were feeling down <3 Food= fuel. Food=life. Food is not intertwined with my emotions (my mantra). Not eating will not make a tough situation any better. In fact, it will make it worse, because I will now be stressed + hungry/dizzy/nauseous due to not eating (again, what I remind myself). Good for you for trucking on, and giving your body what it needs <3

    • Thanks Lauren! I make sure to always get my nutrition in. Yes, food is always as fuel! I agree with your comment for sure!!
