Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff

This week I’ve learnt not to sweat the small stuff.

I had a lot of goals I wanted to accomplish this year, however not all of them were completed. It feels like time has passed by so quickly. Disappointing feelings started to sink into my mind as I realized I hadn’t made certain goals a reality.

So what could I do to turn these negative feelings around? The worst thing to do is so allow the negative feelings to take over our minds. I accepted the fact that I hadn’t accomplished the bigger goals I had hoped to.

* Dinner last night was a simple broccoli slaw stir-fry; made with broccoli slaw, tempeh, nutritional yeast, sunflower seed butter coconut oil, cumin, zucchini and leftover millet. *

Allow yourself to feel upset and frustrated, and then work on turning those feelings around. Let go and release the negative energy. Don’t become too involved in them. Begin looking at other areas in life, and realize how much progress you’ve made in other ways.

For me, I’ve come a long way from where I was in the past and I’m proud of that. Accepting where we are in life right now and celebrating the place we are in, at this moment. The small things aren’t worth the stress, anxiety, and disappointment we can make ourselves feel. It’s a small thing and doesn’t need to take over our lives and thoughts. Don’t let negativity rule your mind.

Also make sure these are goals you do want to accomplish. Sometimes our goals change and that is not a bad thing. If you are dreading completing something, its probably not right for you. Goals should get you excited and energized! It still takes hard work to complete them, but that’s the beauty of a goal. It can be anything your heart desires. Not something you think you “should do“.

Maybe the time isn’t right for those other goals we have planned, but its never too late for those things to happen. Its important for us to accept where we are in life right now. Celebrate where we are while we are moving toward where we would like to go.

Assess our goals and allow us to accept the things we didn’t get to accomplish. It’s important to pick ourselves back up and take the next steps so we can accomplish goals that are important to us.

Its okay to not complete every goal you had intentions of completing. Just make sure to keep your head held high and realize that despite the fact not everything happened the way you thought it would, you are a fabulous and beautiful person just the way you are.

What are some of your goals?

Do you have any tricks to get yourself out of a negative funk?

Do you tend to sweat the small stuff?

Hope your having a fabulous day with your fabulous self!

  1. mmm love all your bars and nut butters!! i don’t tend to sweat the small stuff. if i’m feeling especially negative, i do something that makes me happy… i usually take a walk outside and call a friend!

  2. Great post lisa! I often find that when I don’t accomplish what I had planned that it often turns to negative feelings towards myself or that I wasn’t strong enough to accomplish it when in reality I think that you are right goals can change and often times reaching our goals takes more of a journey than just a year!

    • Yes, I definitely feel that way at the beginning, but then realize I have the power to change that thinking and be proud of other accomplishments in my life! And time is always on our side!

  3. You may not of accomplished all your goals YET, but you still have plenty of the year left girl :) Continue being YOU though. You are such an inspiration to this whole community!

  4. what a good way to put it. I think I get frustrated so easily because I rarely ever accomplish those goals I put out there, in reality I work towards them each day. it is a process! great post lovely!

  5. Great post Lisa and well said :) I know I sweat the small stuff and tend to be too hard on myself when things don’t go according to plan.. but I usually just take a step back and realize that life is too short to stress :)

    • I definitely fall into being too hard on myself, but once I step back and allow myself to just be in the moment and realize everything is great at that moment I feel a ton better!

  6. Oh those negative funks… sometimes they can be so unavoidable. It’s always frustrating to stop and realize that you’re not -exactly- where you want to be in life, but in those times I think it’s so important to stop focusing on what you didn’t accomplish, and start focusing on what you did instead. I remember being so frustrated because my ED kept me back from pursuing so many opportunities and essentially put my life on hold for so many years… I felt like I was lagging and that I had wasted years of my life. But honestly? Making strides in recovery is a big accomplishment. It may not be the kind you had in mind, but it’s nothing to belittle . I honestly believe that everything happens for a reason, and that not achieving some of your goals means your life might be taking you in a different direction.

  7. Great post girl! I do tend to sweat the small stuff. I am easily anxious and I get stressed out. However, I’m learning to let the small things go… As far as goals are concerned, there are certain things that I would have liked to have achieved by now, but I am staying positive. What gets me out of a funk is to pray about it and talk to my hubby about it!

  8. The year is not over yet!!! there doesn’t have to be a “time goal” on reaching your goals!
(but in a way I wish it was because this has been a tough one!) <–and I can't wait for the holidays!
my goal for the rest of the year is to include MORE into all aspects of my day! trust myself MORE, listen to others MORE, eat MORE, enjoy the journey more…etc! :)
I hope your week is off to a great start!
    xoxo!

  9. When I am feeling negative or behind, I try to think of everything that I HAVE accomplished, rather than sit and think about everything that I have not!

One of my goals is to eventually run a marathon and come out alive! Who knows when or how, but eventually I’d like to make that happen :)

    • I like the way you think to get out of that mindset! Ha ha. I’m sure you will run a marathon one day! If you really want to, it will happen.

  10. Great post, I think it ties in well with your post on perfectionism. And just because aspects of our lives don’t go completely as planned, it doesn’t mean we’ve failed in any way or that we haven’t achieved some fabulous stuff:).
Setting goals can often lead to pressure & sometimes disappiontment,(not always though). I try to just go with flow!
    Xxx

  11. So true!!! Ahhh I love all your heart-felt posts<3 love you!

  12. To get out of a funk I always put on silly music and DANCE!

  13. i struggle with “should do” too versus “want to do.” it’s a constant internal battle but i’ve found much more success when i follow the path of want to do.

  14. I most certainly sweat the small stuff… heck I sweat all the stuff (ha that sounds odd). Basically I over-analyze ever.single.detail and make everything seem like the biggest deal ever when in reality it is so not.
Re-evaluating or looking back at my goals helps to get me out of a negative funk. Also talking to someone I trust, whether it be my mom, another family member, a therapist, just someone that will listen and offer advice

    • Ha ha. I got what you meant. I had those tendencies too. I am a complete over analyzer! Talking to others and getting my feelings out also makes me feel SO much better.

  15. When we have negative thoughts and feelings about our bodies and what they can do, these feelings may overflow into other areas of life. Negative thoughts can affect a person’s self-image and make it difficult to accomplish goals. For example, someone who thinks “I can’t do this” or “Why bother, I’ll always be overweight” may have a harder time losing weight. This is one reason why it’s important to recognize any negative emotions and work hard to change them.
