Happy Monday!!!
I took this weekend off from blogging just because I wanted to spend the weekend relaxing. Back to normal for the week though!
First things first….its my birthday!!!!! Can’t believe its finally here. And that September has seriously FLOWN by.
You can’t have a birthday without wine…
And secondly…
Happy 54th Birthday to my Mom!!!!! Yes, we do indeed have the same birthday!
She’s my number one role model in life and I look to her for any advice. She’s also my best friend and I love her more than anything. So, Happy Birthday Mom! Love you lots!
With it being my birthday and all, its pretty much a given that today with be marvelous.
The day started off swell, with one of my favourites.
Overnight pumpkin spice buckwheat
I wanted to participate in Heather and Kasey’s plant POWER challenge for today, so I made todays bowl vegan. Quite the change for me!
In the bowl:
- 1/3 cup buckwheat (ground in my coffee grinder before cooking)
- 2 tablespoons coconut flour
- 1/2 scoop vanilla sun warrior
- 2 teaspoons chia seeds
- 1/3 cup pumpkin
- 1/2 banana
- about 1/4 teaspoon each stevia, cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice
- and cashew butter to finish it off.
Today is going to be spent with some nice relaxation! My Mom and I also decided to make a trip to the Farmer’s Market, which I was pretty excited about.
I love buying local foods and supporting farms in the area. Plus you can’t beat those fresh veggies and fruits!
I got to pose with a pumpkin which I was pretty pumped about, but other people weren’t so enthusiastic with my pumpkin love. Sucks for them.
Please don’t mind my dirty workout pants…I had to scrounge in those bins filled with pumpkin to choose the best one to get a picture with.
Also had to sneak in my fitfluential tank too.
The Market is actually owned by a guy who is in our spin class, so that’s pretty cool stuff too.
I was very strangely excited when I saw a bin of my favourite squash. People stared at me and I tried to play it cool…which I am not.
These Kabocha’s are called Sweet Mama’s, I just adore that name.
And they are the BEST kabocha’s I’ve ever eaten. That is saying a lot.
I also found another squash I quite like the name of….The Hubba Hubba. That’s a real squash name people!
They also included a list of the different winter squash types. Fun learning times.

Later, I got home and decided I wanted to get in a workout as well.
I saw Electra post a fun looking workout the other day, and had to try it out for myself.
I love box jumps and burpees!
I changed it up a bit, and did that workout but added on 10 pike push-ups. I completed this in about 18 minutes and worked up a nice sweat in a short amount of time. Thanks for the workout Electra!

Looks like you had a fabulous weekend! On my birthday I always go out to a restaurant of my choosing with my mom (normally the hot/cold bar at whole foods) and then I get to go shopping for some birthday presents!
Favorite squash. Pumpkin, butternut or yellow. Depends on the season, where all of their flavors are so different.

My birthdays are usually pretty relaxed and chill. I used to go all out when I was younger, but the older I get, the more I just want to have some quiet time with family and close friends. And I’ve been SO excited to see all of the squashes popping up all over the place. Kabocha is definitely my favorite, but butternut comes in at a close second.

Your passion & excitement for squash? Ditto! I visited this natural food store near me this weekend, called Grassroots. It’s the ONLY place I can get my mitts on good squashes , & its ONLY just started getting them in this year:/.
I bought, (well, bullied my mum into buying me), a niiice little haul of squashes. I’m still smiling about them:).
Then ,last night I tried your much loved coconut butter & kabocha combination. It is heavenly! Tastes divine , & the texture is melt.in.your.mouth, I’m so glad I eventually tried this lush duo.
I hope your birthday was all kinds of fabulous , and you had a really special day- special girls need special days!

My favorite way to spend my birthday (which is exactly a month from today–Nov. 1!) is by enjoying a meal out with a few friends, followed by a fun activity like board games or bowling (I know, I'm so cool). If my family is around (which is rare these days because they all live across the country), then they are most definitely there too!

I looked back on my 23rd bday post the other day actually. I had a good day indeed! And my coworker’s gave me a bottle of local wine…I went to a wine tasting…this is nothing new.
