Friday Confessions and The Simply Bar

Happy Friday!

I feel like today has been a weird day. Not too sure why.

The week just seems off, I guess because of the holiday that was on Monday. Anyone else feel this way, or am I just crazy alone over here?

Anyways, here are some of my confessions from this week.

1. I’ve been to Starbucks every single day this week. I seriously can’t help myself.

The holiday cups put me in such a happy mood, I mean how can you resist those adorable cups? I’d like to blame the cups, but let’s just face the fact I’m an Americano addict.

2. I can’t stop using this Hempz Body Butter.

This stuff is just amazing.

Not only does it smell incredible, but it’s the best for moisturizing my sensitive skin.

As much as I enjoy products from the Body Shop, their products tend to not favour my skin too much.

This stuff leaves my skin nice and smooth, without irritating it.

3. After taking time off from my neck pain, I dived back into my workouts with this upper body workout.

I just about died after.

My arms are still in pain.

4. I’ve been eating these delicious coconut muffins again.

I can’t believe I forgot about these gems.

This also reminds me I need to make this strawberry goat cheese again, super tasty!

5. You guys, this is a real thing!

Sinless cocktail mixers. Not only are they low calorie, but they are sugar free and sweetened with stevia AND in holiday flavours.

I probably wouldn’t buy them otherwise, but simply because there is a holiday special makes me want them even more.

Why do companies always trick me this way? I’m probably a tad bit too excited about this.

6. I had buckwheat cereal for Breakfast and oatmeal for Dinner today.

I like carbs and breakfast foods.

7. Simply Bars.

A few weeks ago, the kind folks over at the Simply Bar sent me samples of their bars and protein chips.

Each bar is gluten free, vegan high protein and low glycemic. All bars are around 160 calories, filled with 16 g protein and only 3 g of sugar.

These bars to me, taste like a lighter version of a rice crispy square.

I was sent four of the flavors to try out. Lemon coconut, caramel peanut, peanut butter chocolate, and cinnamon.

Two flavours stood out to me the most: the caramel and the peanut butter chocolate. I’m not a fan of lemon in sweet things, so this was obviously not going to be a favorite of mine.

I was surprised at how full these actually kept me. Usually when bars are this low in calorie, I don’t get full from them easily.

Unfortunately, a minus for me was that they contain soy protein isolate (I should note the soy is non GMO). I try not to consume soy in large amounts, so these are great for days when I’m in a rush. But, I wouldn’t consume them daily.

I still say they are a good option if you are looking for a crispy like treat, but don’t want all of the sugar from a crispy square and would be more filling as well.

Since they are certified gluten-free, these would make a great energy bar option for people suffering from Celiac disease.

Check out their site for more information!

What is your confession this week?

Hope you all have a fantastic Friday!

  1. I love simply bars – they’re so great for traveling. Lemon coconut is my fave. What are the protein chips like? :D

    • They are good, eh! The protein chips weren’t my favorite, but I also don’t like chips in general. They basically taste like a healthy chip. Kind of odd tasting, honestly!

  2. i’ll take one of everything please, and the workout! so glad you are back at it, bring on the soreness. haha.

wish we could have a starbucks date.
    ;-)

  3. AHH yay simply bars!!! I LOVE the lemon coconut and caramel– the caramel ones are JUST like cracker jacks!!! :D
And I need that coconut muffin in my life, even though that icing looks too pretty to eat haha ;)
    Enjoy your weekend Lisa!

  4. I am a marketers dream! Anything geared toward the holiday or season and I’m in. No worries on the daily starbucks trips I can’t do without my coffee either so I totally understand ;) We just need it!

    • I’m the total same! I will even chose perfume based on how it looks rather than smells. And then never use it because of the smell. Aren’t I just the smartest;)

  5. I wish I got Starbucks every day! :) I have heard such good things about those bars. I’ll keep an eye out for them.

  6. soooo confession: Never been to Starbucks lol, but I think you convinced me to try it out. Second, your workout looks brutally good… will try it tomorrow. Third, I baked your coconut muffins last night and I was seriously in heaven, great recipe love. Hope you have a great day:)

    • Oh man, I can’t believe you’ve never been to Starbucks!! Shock! It is a pretty brutal workout, but I love it! Glad you loved them!!

  7. My confession this week is I have been having chocolate pudding every night :-)

  8. I’ve only had one of those bars once.. I wasn’t a huge fan of them (I think mind had dates in it and I don’t really like dates lol) but def agree with you, they’re a good substitute for GF energy bars :) my friend who needs to be GF likes them better than larabars

    • They are definitely way different than lara bars, since those are so dense and these are light! Tough to compare the two! Yah, I guess it wouldn’t be that good if you didn’t like dates in the first place hah.

  9. sorry your week has been kind of off, I hope that you get some down time coming up during the holidays.

  10. Starbucks is BOGO right now until the 18th! (2-5 pm) No shame in getting your drink of AND saving money! I will definitely be there. :)

    Happy Friday!!!

  11. I tried Simply Bars at the CT Veg Fest and LOVED THEM! Seriously some of the most impressive bar nutrition stats I’ve ever seen. I would love to try them again!
I spy a B&BW candle…I think I have that one?! I have to finish my French Baguette one first :P
Um how badly do I want those cocktail mixers?! You know me! girl we WILL toast each other with martinis one day. Those mixers remind me of RIPE, that company that sponsored the cocktail competition I judged!
And finally I am LOLing at the pot leaf on that lotion. you stoner! ;)

    • I know, right. They are pretty awesome! Yes, I love their candles!! We don’t have a B&BW store here, so I had to go online and order them…oopsy! I knew that you would love those cocktail mixers!! Ha ha. I thought someone might catch on;) nono…just hemp oil! I swear

  12. I Love these bars!! YUM!

Duh…I’ve been to starbucks every day for a year ;) Americano or Christmas Blend here I come. The red cups RULE!

    xxoo

  13. Well I had not forgotten about that GEM, I’ve been seriously obsessed with your coconut muffin for like ages( maybe make it around 3X a week), I’m smitten with it,( yaha, I get smitten with foods:p).
I’ve completed that workout of yours twice before, it makes my arms cry for mercy. That 5 pulses every 5 rep thing, it is both good & evil all at once!

Hm, I’ve seen mixed reviews about The Simply Bars. They are just starting to be sold in the UK I think, so hopefully ill be able to try one sometime soon- preferably peanut caramel flavour. If I’m going to buy a bar, I generally prefer them more natural/ made with wholefoods though.

    Have a great weekend Lisa:).
    Xxx

    • Well I get smitten with foods as well! Big time! Oh man, the pulses are so evil. While I’m doing the workout I wonder what is wrong with me for making it up ;)

  14. Starbucks and breakfast foods? Mwee! It’s like we’re one and the same :D I go to Starbucks pretty much every day, and it’s gotten to the point where I no longer see it as something strange. Actually, if someone mentions that they never drink coffee, or never go to Bux I give them funny looks. And I am seriously falling into danger of eating nothing but breakfast foods. Breakfast for dinner seems to be happening more often than not, and here have been times where breakfast for lunch has become a reality as well. Soon I’m going to stop eating normal food

Hope you’re having a great Friday, hun! <3

    • Yay, I’m glad someone else goes to Starbucks as much as me;) ha. Oh man, I’m all for breakfast all day these days. I see no problem with it so far;)

  15. confession: i’m probably more excited than my students to have wednesday, thursday, and friday off next week!!

  16. That arm workout looks awesome!! Go you!! And oatmeal for dinner I could definitely handle.

  17. Those cocktail mixers sound awesome. I love that they are made with stevia!!

  18. That arm workout looks like a tough one, I may have to check that out tomorrow :P It’s so funny that you say that this week has been “off” because I agree, it’s been a weird week for me to say the least…and that goes for many people I have spoken with as well. You are certainly not alone. I would be skeptical at how full that measly bar would keep me because most bars don’t…I have a BIG appetite! Anyways, do you like hot chocolate, you should give it a shot at starbucks it’s delicious…you can spike it too ;)

    • Oh that’s funny. I’m glad I’m not alone in that thought!! I’m the same, I have a BIG appetite, so I was actually shocked it kept me full ha ha. Oh man, I looooove hot chocolate, it used to be the only thing I drank as a kid. Unfortunately, I suffer from migraines, so my naturopath told me to stay away for the time being. Sadness!
