Hey there Friday, fancy seeing you once again.
What a nice treat.
I’ve been sleeping more this week! This is a miracle and is beyond weird.
I don’t know what changed, but I’ll gladly accept more sleep.
Today is relatively busy, so let’s get right to it.
1. I’ve been obsessed with eating my apples dipped in this coconut protein mix for snacks in the afternoon.
Just mix 2 tablespoons coconut flour, 2 tablespoons peanut flour, 1 tablespoon pumpkin puree, stevia, and about 3-4 tablespoons almond milk.
It’s oddly delicious.
2. Spend more time on me.
By taking more picture of myself. Nah, I’m just kidding on that sentence.
I’m going to aim for at least once per week to have a day strictly for my pleasure.
That means, doing whatever I would like.
Whether that means napping, going out with friends, enjoying a treat, getting a manicure.
It will be my day to re-evaluate the week, focus my mind with motivation, laughs, writing, trying new recipes, re-energizing my body and taking care of myself.
3. Getting involved with yoga.
Clearly I’m not liking yoga so much, since I have a magazine on my mat, and have been using it pretty much to just read magazines.
Right now I’m having high levels of anxiety, and it’s not doing so well for my body.
I know I could seriously benefit from yoga, but I just find myself never being able to commit myself to a yoga routine.
This month, I’m going to try out some different classes and style and hopefully find one that I enjoy.
4. Incorporating Maca in my diet
I picked up some maca after my nutritionist recommended it.
It has great nutritional benefits, specifically to hormones so I’m hoping to put it to use in a few recipes this weekend!
I’ve heard great things about this “super food”, so I’m excited to start experimenting. Any ideas?
5. New Candles
I mentioned recently that my sister and I bought a lot of different candles online.
They finally came and I’m super duper excited, they smell amazing.
It was kind of iffy getting these products online, since you can’t smell them beforehand.
Thankfully, they all smell delicious.
I would want to eat them if they were edible…which they’re not…obviously.
And lastly, chili!
Perfect for those rainy and cold Winter nights.
Sweet Potato and Turkey Chili
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 large sweet potato
- 1/2 pound extra lean ground turkey
- 1 cup low sodium vegetable broth
- 14 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 3 cups chopped zucchini
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- a dash of tabasco sauce
1. To start roast the sweet potatoes in a preheated 350 oven for 30-40 minutes until tender (when pierced with a fork).
2. While the sweet potatoes are roasting, in a large pot add coconut oil and brown turkey over medium/high heat.
3. Add zucchini and stir until softened (about 10 minutes). You could also add onions and garlic, but since I don’t like them, I excluded them.
4. Add the rest of the ingredients, stir and simmer for 15-20 minutes or while the sweet potatoes finish baking.
5. Once done, add the cooked sweet potatoes into the chili and stir thoroughly until they have incorporated pretty evenly into the chili.
6. Turn off heat and serve!
What’s your favorite type of chili?
Any fun facts happening this week?
What’s you favorite type of yoga?
Hope everyone has a fantastic Friday!

Oh man I HAVE to try apples dipped in that combo, that sounds so delicious!
And your chili has me drooling. Even though it’s not even remotely cold here, nothing beats a nice warm bowl of chili
Enjoy your weekend, Lisa!
It’s super good! Basically, I love anything with coconut flour though!
Love that coconut dip for apples! Sounds awesome! That turkey chili looks great too and so perfect for fall! I could spend hours in the candle store! I love smelling all the different candles! That creamy pumpkin one sounds delicious! Happy Friday!
Same here, although I get a bit of a headache after. But shopping for candles is just so fun.
Maca is a brilliant addition to smoothies, but I think it would also work really well in all of your pumpkin creations because it has a slightly smoky/caramel flavour. Just a couple of teaspoons is enough as the flavour is pretty strong though.
With yoga it’s all about your goals – I prefer faster, more flowing classes because I get bored easily and hate being in static poses for very long, but some people find that really relaxing. It really is trial and error.
Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll definitely be trying it out!! Thanks for the suggestion, I think I’d prefer faster paced classes as well!
I love all your random protein mixtures! This one sounds right up my alley. What is Maca Powder? Never heard of it. I need to start doing yoga on my rest days, too. It’s always so hard to get myself to do it, but I always feel better afterwards.
Oh man, same here with the yoga. I just need to really try it out. I swear someday I will. Maca is a powder that’s used for increasing stamina and energy and also is said to improve libido, fatigue and stress. It also has a ton of nutritional benefits, like amino acids, healthy fats, minerals and my nutritionist also said it helps balance out the hormones and lots of problems the low hormones cause. So hopefully this helps!
That coconut protein mix -does- sound oddly delicious. I just might have to start trying to use coconut flour more creatively. And I love the idea of spending more time on yourself. It’s something that I tend to neglect as well, but I know that I always feel so great whenever I spend a little more time pampering myself or just letting myself -be- without feeling like I need to be doing something productive. Definitely a good idea.
Happy Friday, love!
I’m just super in love with coconut flour, so I’m always coming up with weird combos;) Oh yes, I always feel WAY better once I actually spend some time on doing things that benefit me!
Re: Yoga
I don’t know if you can make this time but at 10am on Tuesdays, a studio in downtown Victoria called barefoot at heart has a SUPER chill yoga class. Just a heads up that it truly is super, super chill, but I’m guessing you’re going for something relaxing and not intense. I will admit I was sore after the first time because I hadn’t stretched in so long!
Oh thank you for mentioning that! My work is closed on Tuesday’s so that would be perfect for me!!
I know what I’ll be making! I’ve been craving homemade chili (and cornbread) something fierce! I’m curious about what your nutritionist had to say about maca powder, especially the hormonal benefits?
Yay, chili is the best! My nutritionist said the maca powder can help balance out the hormones and lots of problems that the low hormones cause. So hopefully it will help me out.
I realllllly want to get into yoga too but I just never have…I have this notion that it’s not a good workout, even though I know thats false! I could use all the stretching I cant get! My friend realllly wants me to to Bikram with her. I want to try it, but I don’t know if I can handle the heat, or everyone sweating that much around me! Haha
Ha ha. Yah, I did Bikram once and will never ever ever go back. Ick, it was so not my thing. I couldn’t handle all the sweat. I felt trapped in a sweaty room and it felt gross to me ha ha. Plus, I hated the feeling during and after. Oh well, there’s lots of other types of yoga which is good!
Chili sounds ahhhmazing!! Love just those comforting, delicious, yet simple recipes – so good. Went to an amazing Hot Flow yoga class yesterday – blew my mind. Def my favourite, its always changing in comparison to Birkam..too repetitive! Btw, I’ve been eating your pumpkin freezer fudge on top of everything – its just SO GOOD. Hope you have a great weekend!
I’m so glad to hear you loved it! I’m also obsessed with it!
mm chili sounds so good with this cold front moving in. Glad you are taking more time for you, always worth it in the end
Great post! I definitely want to make that chilli soon,( I’ve been so obsessed with your parsnip & sweet pot soup BTW, I made an extra batch for my mum, she loved its creamy , sweetness as well<3). I will probably make it with some organic chicken in place of turkey, because i can never find ground turkey:/, or maybe some kidney beans. Love beans in chilli.
I want to try that coconut protein dip too!! Gosh, I get waaay too excited, & want to try like errythang you make.
I'd be pumped if you share what you do with the maca. I have a bag that been sitting basically unused for months- my uncreative brain can't think of what to do with it. It has a slightly odd taste to me.
Your Friday numbah 2 is a goodie. I like the sound of a day every week that's aaall about ME.
Xxx
Ah, I need to make that parsnip soup again! I just picked up some parnsips, looks like I’ll be eating well tomorrow;) Ha ha. I get super excited about posting recipes too! I’ll definitely share if I find anything to use it in, I’m a little nervous to experiment with it!
Yum! That chili sounds delicious… I seriously love almost any kind of chili!
Same here!
I love me some chili!! My favorite is black bean and butternut squash chili. I wish I was into yoga. I could seriously benefit from it. I need to take classes to get into it more!
Oh, that sounds delicious! I’m going to try adding butternut squash next time!
I’m so happy to hear you’re getting some extra sleep!
My favorite chili recipe is actually President Obama’s chili recipe. I found it online searching for chili recipes. Now it’s my go-to chili recipe. It’s simple, has beans and meat and has turmeric which I like. Of course I use fresh tomatoes and dry beans instead of canned. Your recipe looks great too!
The kind of yoga I do is Iyengar yoga. I rarely use props anymore though because I’ve become so strong and flexible. I like this kind of yoga because it emphasizes the proper alignment of your skeleton in the asanas. Also, yoga to me is so much more than just poses and breathing. I try to practice the whole 8 limbs. Ultimately, yoga is about prayer. I like that Iyengar yoga prepares you for the levels of yoga beyond just the physical. Everyone is different though and what works for me may not work for you, but I still recommend it. I’ve been doing it for four years now.
I think it’s a great idea to spend time focusing on yourself! That’s something I want to do too.
I’ll have to check out that recipe! It sounds pretty amazing, especially with the use of fresh tomatoes! Oh wow, I’ve never heard of that type of yoga. I’m definitely going to see if there is a class here for it though! I’ll try any type once!
I LOVE the idea of focusing more on yourself! We all need a little something to look forward to and i’m sure you will benefit a lot from it. In fact, I think i will join you on that. A Manicure? Twist my arm.
I know right! I think we all need a day to just focus on ourselves, our minds and thoughts. And bring about improvements to the upcoming days or weeks!
I’ve never heard of maca. Time for yourself once a week sounds awesome, I need to get on that band wagon!
I’ll let you know if it’s any good when I try it!
Did your nutritionist give you any serving size recommendations for the maca? Thanks!
