Friday Confessions

Hello!

I clearly haven’t gotten enough sleep this week because I looked in my freezer this morning and found my wallet? I didn’t even know it was missing.

Hm.

I’m truly confused how it got in there…Life is weird sometimes.

Coffee is much needed today.

Let’s get to this weeks confessions.

1. ‘Tis the season for everything holiday themed.

I mean why buy normal coffee when you can buy christmas coffee. I have to admit I fall victim to this trend.

Holidays = happiness in my mind. My heart belongs in this season.

I like the Fall flavours, but there’s nothing better than gingerbread, peppermint, and eggnog flavored goodies.

The weird thing is I don’t like these things as individuals, but in baked goods they are just the best!

Who wants to send me some gingerbread coffee ;) ? We sadly don’t get it here.

2. I mentioned on my what I ate Wednesday post that I had socca for Dinner and I had a few people asking me what exactly it is and how to make it.

It’s so simple, really!

I take 1/3 cup garbanzo bean flour, a little less than 1/3 cup water and mix it together, while 1 teaspoon of coconut oil is heating in a pan.

Then, I simply pour the flour and water mixture and cook it in the pan.

And voila! It’s pretty hard to mess up, so don’t fret.

3. Maca.

I posted this on instagram yesterday, but wanted to know what on earth I should use my un-opened package of maca in.

Most people recommended smoothies, which I’m definitely going to try out, but it’s so cold.

I wonder if it would be any good in baked goods? Opinions?

4. This tea cup candle needs to be made instantly.

Is that just not the most adorable thing ever?

It kind of sounds time consuming, but I can’t get over how much I love it.

Plus you can add your own scent, which just makes it that much better.

5. I’m kind of addicted to this moroccan argon oil for my hair.

It makes my hair so silky soft, and I just heart it solely for that reason.

It also prevents hair frizz and those little whispy hair pieces that sometimes come around, as well as protects hair from sun damage.

So basically it’s amazing.

6. New Workouts.

This one was rough, but I it was fun once I was finished.

Anything that can get me running is a miracle.

I’m pretty much loving all the GPP workouts that Janetha has been posting about. I’m now addicted to their workouts.

They burn so good and are short and effective. Winning.

What was your favorite workout this week?

Favorite hair product?

Have a great Friday!

  1. Oooh I’ve never even heard of Maca powder before! IsIt sounds like it must be cool if it says “superfood” on the label haha! I can’t wait to see how you incorporate it!
And hooray for all things Christmas! I still can’t believe it’s already almost December, I’m in such a time warp :P
    Have an amazing weekend Lisa!

  2. Oh that Socca looks so good and easy! I’m totally making it :) And I’m about to do out of Zuzana Light’s ZWOWs and it looks brutal! Nervous and excited :P

  3. Yay for christmas time and stuff!! Love all of it too! I did ‘All Tabata TRX’ from #badassfitness a few times this week it’s brutal. Haha wallet in the fridge happened to me too :-) :-)

  4. I saw socca on another blog a while ago, and I’ve been meaning to make it!! I keep forgetting to buy chickpea flour though. I’ll add it to my grocery list for next week!

  5. I’ve never tried maca in powder form, I remember trying it as an extract and it definitely got me buzzing, I was so awake afterwards. If you’re sleepy enough to be putting your wallet in the freezer, that’s probably a sign you could use it. :-p

  6. Love that teacup candle! How adorable. I am the biggest sucker for all things holiday! Just makes everything feel extra special.

  7. I am happy to say that I now know what Socca is. Thanks for sharing! :)

  8. i used to fall into the holiday coffee trap until i discovered that those flavors suck hahahaha except dunkin peppermint mocha which is AMAAAAAZINGGGGG

  9. i need to try garbanzo bean flour. asap. and dunkin donuts coffee is my jam.

  10. omg i just cracked up laughing when i read that you found your wallet in the freezer! sounds like a practical joke, but i guess itz not?! ;) i also add maca to my homemade pancakes.. it really doesn’t alter the taste, so literally just add a teaspoon here and there in things you are mixing!

  11. The candle is so adorable. My friend made me a similar one and I have it on display in my closet. As for hair products, lately I have been using kerastase. My hair has never felt better.

I hope you have a fun weekend :-)

  12. I totally get sucked in to holiday stuff as well. I’m actually kind of happy that the Fall flavors are on their way out because I was getting a little tired of seeing pumpkin everywhere, and I have to say that the peppermint/chocolate combo is one of my favorites :D Oh and I love putting moroccan oil in my hair. That and the solid shampoos from LUSH are my absolute favorite things.

    • I’m kind of the same with the pumpkin now too! I never thought I’d ever say that haha. I need to check out the solid shampoos from LUSH!!

  13. I’ve never thought about incorporating flavored coffees into baked goods, but that sounds like such a delicious use for them! What all do you bake them into?

I love mousse. I’ve yet to find the perfect one yet, but it’s the best thing to get my not-quite-ringlets/not-quite-straight hair to curl at all.

  14. It warms my heart to see you posting and doing GPP! I hope you make it to Blend, they will be leading a boot camp!

  15. omg I love socca!! I usually add a tablespoon of nutritional yeast in my mix :)

  16. I’m so making that socca!! I’m so excited. :) I need to try the GPP workouts!

  17. Oh we’re the same ,my bag of maca has just been sitting unused for a while now too. I keep meaning to make one of the raw maca ball recipes I’ve seen around the interwebz though.. I hear maca does wonders for the ‘ole bedroom mojo, baha.

Current fave hair product= Lush’s Godiva solid shampoo. Smells deeevine.

Current fave workouts= GNC lean leg workout 2( that I found via you), it’s awesome & fun, gah those surfer jumps!
*ZWOW 34. This Z workout is definitely a goodie. The weighted pop squats make my thighs burn & scream. And the plank pulls are a really unique move. Have you tried this one?
    Xxx

    • I’ve heard the same for the libido. Apparently it’s a little miracle worker in those parts. I still haven’t opened it. Wait, I have, but it smells weird so now I’m afraid to use it haha. I should really get over it and try some! Surfer jumps kill everytime! I haven’t tried that ZWOW yet! Doing that tomorrow!

  18. I think I’m going to Target tomorrow, and if I do, I’ll pick up a bag of Dunkin Donuts gingerbread coffee for you! My heart belongs in this season too; everything makes me so…so happy! I notice a difference in the way people act and treat each other as well. There’s so much love! Maybe it’s all those delicious baked goods? Yeah, probably. ;)

I’ve never tried socca or maca! Socca has been on my list for longer than I can remember, and maca first entered my radar when a foodie pen pal told me she loved everything maca flavored. I had no idea what she was talking about, so I looked it up and went to Whole Foods to buy a bag. It’s pricey, but apparently worth it? Let me know what you think!

The tea cup candle is way too cute! And argan oil is a hair-saver. I use Moroccan Oil products (shampoo, conditioner and the plain oil) regularly, because it makes my hair so silky. Yet another expensive addiction…why do all of these wonderful products have to cost so much?

    Happy weekend, love! <3 xoxo

    • Awe, that would be too sweet of you! You are so kind. I’ll get you some goodies from good ol’ Canada. David’s Tea! What else do we have that’s cool here? haha;) I opened the bag of maca and it’s so strong smelling! Now I’m afraid to try it out! I’ll let you know as soon as I work up the courage haha. Moroccan oil is another thing that totally saved my hair! Dang, I know. Too many good products are too expensive! xoxo

  19. I love holiday themed things. :) I need to make a teacup candle.. neat idea!

  20. Ha Ha, I couldn’t stop laughing about your wallet story the whole time I read the rest of your post. It reminds me of a time where I put our TV remote control in the freezer. I felt so bad because it literally took my husband and I about an hour and half to find it. Whoops! ((&& just like you, please don’t ask what I was thinking at the time)).

    • So embarrassing! Haha. I guess no one was there to see, which is always a good thing. I don’t even know how these things happen to us!

  21. I never comment but here it goes….love that you bought gelatinized Maca powder,
non-gelatinized is useless as you can’t absorb anything from it. I definitely think you should try it in bake d goods, when I worked at a health food store we sold maca chocolate and I was addicted! However, the taste is quite distinct. Let us know what you decide, maybe I’ll give it a go!

    • Oh, I had no idea! Thank you so much for you comment!! I’ll definitely try it out in baked goods then and let you know! The smell is very, very strong. So I definitely won’t add in too much!

  22. Don’t feel so bad, I’m pretty sure I’ve put my wallet and/or keys in the freezer on (possibly more than one) occasion. Don’t tell. I had a big socca kick a while ago, but I haven’t made it in ages. I’ll have to whip some up for a quick dinner tonight since I know I’ll be getting home late. I, too, have the same problem with Maca. Aside from sprinkling a bit in oatmeal and adding it to some chocolate truffles I’ve found no use for it!

  23. Stephanie says:

    Hey Lisa,
I feel like I could write you an essay on my experience with maca powder, lol. In short, though, I just want to caution you because it is powerful stuff!! Did you know that maca is illegal in Norway without a prescription? Upsides of maca in my experience were increased stamina and endurance during intense workouts, and better overall energy and mood. It also increased my libido like mad. The downside I have found was that it exacerbates my acne. I had been on acne medications, and my acne was under control, but when I started incorporating maca into my diet, my acne got a lot worse… worse than it’s ever been. I think particularly for those predisposed to acne, maca is more likely to increase acne. Anyways, I definitely encourage you to try it, you will undoubtedly notice its potent effects, but beware of the side effects and add it in slowwwwly, in small doses! :D Take care~~

    • Thank you Stephanie!! That is really useful and great to know! I had no idea it could do all that. Very interesting, especially since I have SUPER sensitive skin, so I definitely will look out for that issue! I’m kind of scared to use it now haha.

  24. Those tea flavors sound so cozy..and festive! I actually signed up to get a sample of that gingerbread coffee (still waiting for it to arrive) as part of Clever Girls Collective. But I plan to let my sis sample it because I HATE DUNKIN DONUTS with a burning firey passion. She loves them though. I figure I can get her opinion! PS I went to spin today and totally thought of you :)

  25. Stephanie says:

Oh, an alternative to smoothies is to add maca powder to pancakes! That’s what I sometimes do :)

  26. Man I wish we got those Dunkin Donut flavoured coffees here in Canada too. Why does the US always get all the good foods? :P

My favourite workout this week was my 50 minute walk on the treadmill yesterday while reading Shape magazine. It was nice and relaxing!

  27. This is my absolute favourite recipe for using maca! Sort of smoothie..sort of ice cream…

  28. i once found my bra in the freezer. Don’t ask.

    saving this workout! looks good!

  29. omg I love that aargan oil! It makes my hair feel like feathers.
