Oh, the holidays! Such a bittersweet moment for them to be ending!
I had another Christmas celebration again today, since my parents are divorced. So, Christmas is spent on at my Mom’s and Boxing Day is spent at my Dad’s house.
All around everything went super smooth. I enjoyed every moment, but am also happy the holidays have come to and end (well, for this week) so we can all return to a bit of a normal routine.
Now, to chat with you all about food.
{ goodbye egg white oat bran }
My morning Breakfasts,Snacks, Lunches, and Dinners can have the habit of planting a smile on my face and making me feel good, throw in a curve ball (like a change of plans) and well that mood can be turned sour almost instantly.
There have been times in the past, where when I didn’t get exactly what I wanted from a meal, I’d end it feeling sad and annoyed. Yah, it’s ridiculous. Things have improved a lot since I’ve gotten healthier.
{ good bye greek yogurt + cashew butter }
However, it know longer controls my mood, feelings, reactions to things now. Sure I love to have great tasting meals, but realistically food isn’t going to be gourmet or perfect every single meal. Some days, I’ll have to eat quickly in the car or grab something instead of sitting at the table for 20 minutes enjoying the food I’m eating. No big deal in the end.
I’m also the queen of comfort. Throw me in for a loop and I tend to feel a bit out of control.
{ goodbye granola pancakes }
I just don’t like change, but they say change is what makes us grow and make us learn. This isn’t all going to be a HUGE change by any means, but it’s still a change that I wish I didn’t have to make.
I’ve been going through some severe digestive issues for the past 3 years. We thought after initially recovering they would diminish, but sadly things got worse and I felt crummier, bloated, fatigued, and was always in a little “brain fog” every single day. I’m tired of it, so after talking to my nutritionist we agreed it was a good idea to get an allergy test done.
Initially, I tried elimination diets, but those only led me to relapse and I usually wound up more confused than when things started.
{ goodbye eggs }
I ended up seeing a naturopath and getting my testing done. There were a bunch of foods I originally avoided since I thought I had a sensitivity to them, I was wrong about almost every one of those though.
With this all being said, I will be making diet changes in my life and they’ll be big ones for me.
To start, I have to completely eliminate ALL dairy. This means, casein, cheese, cottage cheese, cows milk, goats milk, mozzarella, whey, and yogurt. Yes, I have intolerances to all of these things.
As well as eggs. All eggs. Duck eggs, egg whites and egg yolks.
These are going to be the main challenges for me. I love my eggs, egg whites and greek yogurt. In fact, this is where I get most of my protein from.
{ goodbye buckwheat with egg whites }
Some more intolerances that were severe include black pepper, amaranth flour, brown rice, cashews (SAD), flaxseed, kamut, millet, pistachios, navy beans, and sesame seeds. (EDITED TO ADD: These are not true allergies, rather intolerances/sensitivities to foods. I’m sorry if I offended anyone with my previous wording.)
Yes, things will have to change around here. Another problem I’m facing is getting in enough protein. I’m not a huge meat lover and now have to eliminate all dairy and eggs.
{ goodbye strawberry goat cheese }
Unfortunately since I’m sensitive to brown rice too, I can’t consume anymore of my sunwarrior protein powder (major sads). I just thought I’d let you all know what went on during this appointment since you will obviously be seeing these changes on the blog!
It’s fine, not a huge deal at all really. I already feel TONS better without these things in my diet. Seriously, I’m actually very happy I got this testing done because without it I’d have guessed all the wrong things and still be suffering.
Sorry this post is extremely long, I’ll leave it at this for now.
Feel free to ask me anymore questions if you’d like!
Do you have any food allergies?
What’s your favorite (non rice based vegan protein powder)?
Have you ever counted on food for source on enjoyment in your life?
Have an amazing Thursday all!

Hey Girl….I am so happy for you that you found out what isn’t good for you and that you feel so much better. I am sorry that you have to cut out things that you loved – but since you are such a creative person I know you will still create the most delicious meals even without eggs and all that stuff! I do cut out dairy and grains because it makes me feel better. I am not allergic, but it just feels better like this.
Thanks Lucie! It’s great that you cut things out simply because it makes you feel better. It’s weird how different bodies react to different foods!
Wow! I can’t believe you’re allergic to all of those things – I’m sorry!
No fun. I seriously need to get tested as well. I have been dealing with the same issues as you!
I know! It really sucked when I got the news. I wasn’t too impressed, but now that I know it has been SO helpful. I no longer go to bed in extreme pain, it’s kind of crazy actually! I’d totally recommend getting tested!
Wow, I totally still go to bed in pain
Defintiely can’t afford testing though (plus they are HIGHLY unreliable, so I wouldn’t be able to try to find the money worth it. ) Oye.
Hang in there Lisa! I’m so happy you were able to find answers though. I’m sure the adjustment will take time but continue to listen to your body and you will be just fine!
Thank you for the support Danielle!
Sadness! I’m so sorry to hear this Lisa. It’s tremendous that you already feel better, though. I just decided to decrease my Greek yogurt consumption because I think it’s been contributing to acne breakouts
Did the doctor mention how you may have developed those allergies? Or have you always had them? Allergies are a mystery to me – I don’t understand how they just develop. It sounds like it might be a good idea for everyone to get their allergies tested every now and then because of how often they seem to go undiagnosed.
I actually had to cut out cottage cheese and whey proteins since they started to really affect my breakouts! Greek yogurt didn’t seem to cause me issues, except for the digestion stuff. She said it’s possible that I just was consuming them so much that I developed an intolerance. But, I actually never ate yogurt, milk, cheese, or any other dairy until I developed an ED (because of the protein, it was a “safe” food) so I might just not have been able to develop it before that as well. It’s kind of crazy because otherwise I’d have no idea!
aw girl i’m sorry to hear that! at least you’re starting to feel better already – that’s what’s important!! now you have lots of recipe challenges ahead – making your old favorites out of new ingredients that you can enjoy!! vega one is a good vegan protein – not sure about the brown rice thing though
Exactly! That’s what I figure, it may be good because it will challenge me to get outside my comfort zone with the same foods I eat all the time. It totally sucks about the brown rice! hah
I have to be a voice of skepticism here and ask exactly how these naturopaths discern what constitutes an ‘allergy.’ I wish I had the brains to explain the exact science involved but these random blood tests often show up foods we commonly eat as an ‘allergen’ – a friend of mine was told she was allergic to all of the foods you supposedly are – she avoided them for years and still had terrible issues with fatigue, stomach issues, etc. In the end she could eat all of the foods she was told she couldn’t with the exception of milk, which she has a life-threatening reaction to (and really, unless you need an epi-pen and are at risk of anaphylactic shock, it’s not a serious allergy and it’s makes it very hard for people who do have legit, life-threatening allergies to be taken seriously). I wish I had her here to explain things properly but basically the body produces something that mimicks an autoimmune reaction to foods we eat very frequently, leading ‘naturopaths’ to (mis)diagnose them as allergies. I don’t know how these people get away with marketing such pseudoscientific information but it’s not a hard and fast answer – I guess blaming certain foods is easier than looking a little deeper (not aimed just at you, I mean in general).
What helped my friend was addressing her other issues – stress, anxiety, exercising less and getting herself to a BMI of over 20. I appreciate you’re not in the same ED space as when you were very ill, but you look more in the 18-19 range, you still exercise when you’re tired and you do eat a very limited range of foods in small portions, particularly carbs and fats. One does not have to be emaciated to have a body under a lot of strain. Cutting out these foods is not an answer – it’s just a comforting scapegoat.
I know it’s easier to believe these ‘scientists’ but they are not doctors. They don’t have all the answers. Most people would leave thoughts like this as an Anon and I’m probably an idiot for not doing that, but please really think about what you’re doing rather than being the stereotypical blogger who cuts out entire food groups for ‘health’ reasons. You’re a smarter person than that.
I definitely agree. Also, I know that based on your food posts, WIAWs, etc. that you always eat the same foods, over and over again. This can lead to intolerances with certain foods as your body gets too much of that food. Its not an “allergy.” An intolerance and an allergy are 2 very different things. Ex: no one is allergic to gluten, it is not a real allergy. It is an intolerance. You cannot have an anaphylactic reaction to gluten. I know many other food bloggers have had intolerences to things like almond butter and avocados from eating them too often, so they cut them out for a short bit, and made sure to eat them a little less often instead of everyday as they were previously. I know that many of the foods you eat you eat everyday, which is probably why you are feeling the way you do. It is not healthy to eat the same things over and over again (and I know that makes you worry about your foods if things aren’t as planned or familar to you, but this is how it is supposed to be). Try to cut these things out for a short bit, then gradually reintroduce them and eat them less often. This probably won’t be that hard because you’ll have found new things you enjoy to replace them. Just be sure not to eat these replacements every single day (i.e. having the same breakfast everyday) or the same things might happen again. I read a different comment on here about a girl who said she ate oatmeal for breakfast everyday before finding out she had an “allergy” but i bet it was the same sort of thing.
Hi Amanda, I wrote to Jess above you can see my reply. You’re right it’s an intolerance. I’ll fix my post after I write to your comment because I should’ve rephrased that better. And I definitely agree that it’s probably due to me eating the same foods over and over. This will be an experiment, and I’ll reevaluate again in 6 months or so.
OMG >…exactly like me. I eat the SAME things all the time…so while its not an “allergy” …it is IS a sensitivity because I eat them ALL the time…SO eventually we WILL be able to eat them again….
HOWEVER, i still hven’t cut them out, no energy, and have extreme digestive issues, can’t afford a naturopath and end up “binging” late at night (and don’t exrcise
Email me if you want . Would LOVE to chat. Thanks.
(Different Jess here! lol)
But I agree… after reading your blog for over a year now and knowing that you still don’t have your period, you definitely seem to over-exercise for the amount that you eat. Yes, I understand you don’t take pictures of and post EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth, but I’d still be willing to bet that you don’t eat enough.
The proof is your lack of period. I was in the same boat: thought I was doing everything right in recovery because I gained “some weight.” Well, turns out I had some more weight to gain! It sounded scary, but seriously, I fit in the same clothes. It doesn’t even make a difference except on the scale. When I did gain the weight, I got my period back, and was able to go back to a normal exercise routine and am functioning just fine.
I think you’re still at that stage where you’re doing everything you can to avoid gaining what could just be 5-10 pounds that would help you function normally. So please, for your sake and so that you really can do what you enjoy, give yourself a break and stop trying to maintain some artificial low weight that is just hurting you every day. You’ll be happier in the end.
Hey Jess, per my Doctors recommendation I am at a healthy weight and I probably do need to ease up on my exercise habits a bit, which is why I’m taking a week of rest and not doing HIIT workouts anymore. I’m currently still working on anxiety issues I also have around weight, so I’m hoping my period will return shortly. I’ve definitely increased my calories, I’m hoping it’s enough, but I may have to re-adjust things if they still aren’t making any improvements with my health. Thanks for the comment.
I don’t think ‘ guess the bloggers BMI’ is really necesarry. (Geez).
Well it’s pretty obvious with the lack of period, among other things. Sorry, but I’m someone who’s in recovery and a total skeptic of others who say they are because of my own experiences and because of the people I’ve met in support groups.
Jess, I currently don’t know my BMI nor do I want to know because I’m afraid it will lead me to relapse so I actually don’t know what it is, but as I said before my Doctor says it’s in a normal (on the lower range probably), but healthy.
Hi Jess, I probably should correct the post and state they were food sensitivities/intolerance rather than full blown allergies. You’re very right that it does make people with full blown allergies taken less seriously and I’m sorry if I didn’t explain myself properly. I haven’t really explained fully on my blog why I wanted to get this test done, but for years now I’ve suffered with horrible digestion, bloating, constipation, etc. You know all those things we don’t really like to discuss. As well as some skin problems. I definitely know what it’s like to have a legit allergy, since I’m highly allergic to mustard, so I should’ve been more careful with my wording. I’m not doing this as a restriction method, whether to experiment if I feel better without these foods. Right now I do. I feel much less bloated, more regular, etc. And maybe this won’t last but there’s no denying I already feel a lot better without these things. I still see a therapist, doctor (monthly) and they seem to think my BMI is fine, same with my exercise habits, and of course I still have things I need to work on. You’re right, I think part of the problem is that I was eating these foods every single day, not experimenting with my diet, which made it easier for me to develop these sensitivities. Thanks for the comment.
I’m so glad that you’re starting to feel better, babe! You’re so strong for doing this. I know that your ED brain will tell you that you’re restricting yourself but your recovery brain will tell you that you are practicing LOVE to yourself. That’s the one we gotta listen to, right? Right. Haha! As far as getting enough protein, you’ll be fine! I’m sure your nutritionist told you this already but, especially now that you’re taking some rest for your body, you only need roughly 0.8g/kg of body weight for your protein. Super easy to get with all the veggies and other protein sources.
I love you so much and am so proud of you for choosing love every day. It moves me to tears!
Love you Heather! I’ll probably be e-mailing you too much in the near future haha. It’s definitely a lot different to eat this way, but I already feel better! You’re totally right about the protein. I guess protein was my “safe food”, so this could be a good change since it will make me challenge those thoughts! You’re the best xox
Im sorry you are going through this. I am as well! If You dont mind me asking what allergy test did you have done and what CAN you eat? Im always looking for alternatives
Awe, I’m sorry you’re going through the same thing! I had a prick test as well as an IGG IGE food allergy testing (via blood work) Ha, I should’ve mentioned the things I can eat;) I can have basically all fruits/veggies, all meat, cocoa powder, coffee, nutritional yeast, yeast, almonds, barley, coconut, corn, kidney beans, lentils, lima beans, oats, peas, peanuts, pecans, pinto beans, quinoa flour, rye, spelt, sunflower seeds, walnuts, and rye. Phew, that’s a long list haha, hope it helped!
aww Lisa I can totally relate.. I just had to stop eating all dairy products because it was causing too much stomach/intestinal pain. I do miss my Greek yogurt though, but after a week, I got used to it. I actually feel loads better being full vegan now. For protein, they do make pea protein, I’m not sure what brand though… and So Delicious makes a great vegan “Greek Yogurt” they use almond/coconut milk
That’s great you are starting to feel better now Rachel! I know it will get easier with time, it’s actually a lot easier now that it has been a few days! I need to try pea protein asap! I’m going to go on a search ha.
Wow, this sounds kind of rough!!
I love my eggs and that is one of the reasons why I have not fully transitioned from a vegetarian to a vegan diet. You can live without them though! I am sure it will be hard, but after awhile your body won’t even miss them (at least this is how I feel about meat). Hang in there!! Have faith and you can and will make it through this challenge!
When I first heard I almost cried haha. I love them so, but oh well it’s not that hard now that I know that these things are causing my issues! It actually made it easier.
Oh wow, hun. As someone who definitely finds comfort in being able to eat familiar foods, I can only imagine how uncomfortable it might be to completely have to redo your diet. I used to eat oatmeal for breakfast every.single.day before I found out I had an intolerance to it, and I seriously didn’t know how I’d manage without it. You know what, though? It’s doable. It might be strange at first, but you’ll get used to the new diet in time, and you’ll find new things that you love so you won’t miss the old ones as much. I know you said you’re not big on meat, but you should really consider trying to eat a bit more of it if you can’t have eggs and dairy. I was never a big fan of meat either, and I thought I could get by fine without it as long as I was getting plenty of protein from other sources, but I noticed a HUGE improvement in my health when I added meat back in on a regular basis. My fatigue let up and I felt better overall. Just something to consider
Oh yah, I forgot about your oatmeal allergy! Man, it sucks at first but you’re right, once you know it’s the cause of your discomfort it makes it MUCH easier. I’m definitely considering adding in more meat, I have been the last few days and I actually feel a lot better already. I wish it wasn’t so gross to deal with raw ha. Thanks for the support love!
I really, reallllllly urge you to try magnesium glycinate. Look into it
It has been my saviour, and I now re-introduced dairy, cruciferous veg, and other foods with no problem after years of ED/tummy troubles. Still can’t do gluten, but everything else is a go!
Thanks for the suggestion Lauren! I’ll put it on my list and look for it tomorrow! Thanks!
I’m both sad and happy to hear that you finally got your tests back. That is so great that you are feeling better with removing your allergens. I felt slightly better when I removed mine, but I still react to a lot, and there’s something else entirely at play. I pray that getting rid of yours takes care of your stomach pains.
For the dairy, homemade almond milk seems to be the best replacement of cow’s milk, but I think you are already use that, right? I haven’t tried coconut milk or yogurt, but I’ve heard that those are pretty good too. I know that some also swear on hemp milk because I think it’s thicker.
That’s too bad about the protein powder. Rice really is great. I totally understand though. I’ve stopped eating all grains, including rice, because none go over too well with me. In replace of the rice protein powder, I’d try hemp or pea protein as I’ve heard that those are good.
I’m super surprised that gluten or wheat wasn’t an allergy for you… That seems to cause problems for EVERYONE.
As for eggs, can you have soy? I know that tofu is great scrambled like eggs, and can also be used in place of eggs for baking.
Sorry for the super long response. I’m sure you are overwhelmed and don’t even more to read from me
Good luck and definitely keep us posted!
I really hope this will ease my stomach! Yah, I’ve never liked milk anyways so I’ve always used almond/coconut which is a plus! I think the big thing for me will be the eggs mostly. And yah, the brown rice protein definitely sucks. I’m looking into hemp and pea proteins now! Hopefully I can find some decent ones! I know, I was SO surprised about the gluten/wheat! I had eliminated them before, and while I do feel better without them, it’s nice to know I can in fact eat them without having any major issues.
thats hard when you are trying to not focus some much on food. yes, i’ve been through hell and back. But i just keep a journal and make sure i know whats making me sick. I think you’ll be loving canned salmon and protein powders now. Yes? You can do this!
That’s a great idea with the journal Lindsay! I know you’ve been through a whole LOT with your food issues, I’m glad you’ve discovered most of the culprits! Since I can’t have the brown rice protein, I hope to find some decent pea or hemp proteins! I’ll be on the search starting now ha.
When I initially read this I thought it was a MAJOR bummer. I mean, you are having to give up so many of the favourites & staples in your diet( which are now favourites & staples in my diet…not by coincedence, haha).
But now I’ve had time digest it( yah, that’s a pun) , I know you’ll embrace these changes & use it as an opportunity to be creative and get inventive with your food. Which you’re basically AMAZING at, so it’s all good. And you’ll be feeling better! So of course it’s a good thing.
So you’re saying lots of goodbyes. Am I right in thinking you’re saying hello to cocoa though, & welcoming dark chocolate? Cos that’s pretty awesome.
.
For protein powder I’ve been using plain hemp, which pairs fabulously with cocoa powder FYI, maybe you could try that? It’s also like the least processed protein powder ever. Also your beloved peanut flour packs quite a protein punch( oh hey alliteration), so I guess it’s an excuse to eat more of that goodness
Xxx
Haha, it’s true! By saying some goodbyes I’m saying hello to cocoa powder!!! So excited for this one clearly! Ha. And some more protein powders hemp, possibly pea (I’ve heard good things about it!) and of course peanut flour (thank gosh I had no issues with pumpkin, coconut, and peanut!). I’ll have to be on a recipe remake mission. I’m trying to come up with a more voluminous vegan protein muffin, which is hard since I can’t have flaxseed either haha. I’ll do it eventually
Aww, Lisa I’m sorry you have to deal with this – it must be frustrating! But if you’re already seeing a difference, it must be worth it. I know you’ve said you’re not a big meat fan, but if you can’t have dairy or eggs you may have to try to introduce it a little more often. As for protein powder, maybe give hemp or pea protein a shot?
Hope the transition into your new diet goes well for you!
Thanks for the suggestions! I’m already looking for some pea/hemp proteins. I’m definitely going to introduce a bit more meat into my diet, otherwise I’d be protein-less ha. Thanks for your support!xo
I have no idea what allergies I have actually. Thanks for the motivation to go get tested!
Hey Lisa,
So sorry to hear about all the food allergies, but glad you’re feeling much better. Since I’m vegan, I’ve tested almost ever brand of plant based protein powder, and my favorite is Plant Fusion. You can order on Amazon and it’s super reasonably priced, and I don’t think it includes any of your allergens. Good luck!
Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll keep a lookout for it, or maybe I’ll just order it online. It does seem well priced on there!
Can you please do an update post later on detailing if these eliminations ended up improving your digestive system?
I will definitely do that Angela!
That egg white oat bran looks sooo good! Sorry to hear about the food allergies, though:( Have a great weekend Lisa!
You too Sunnie! I’m going to miss the egg white oat bran the most I think!
I hate that you have to give this stuff up!! But I completely understand where you are coming from. Hang in there girl.. hopefully it will settle your tummy troubles!
Thank you Brittany! I know you can relate to a lot of this as well!xo
Oh my goodness Lisa! I’m so sorry to hear you’re allergic to all that stuff :’( I will be praying for you as you begin this new food journey, i have all the confidence in the world that you can do it!!
Thank you for your ongoing support my wonderful friend!!
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear this, Lisa. As I don’t have any allergies I know of myself – though I’ve been suspecting a slight dairy intolerance lately – I can only imagine how hard it must be for you. Like many others said I’m sure you’ll wow all of us with creative new culinary creations even if it’ll take time to adjust. I’m keeping my fingers crossed you’ll find a way to make all of these changes work!
While many others already said one doesn’t need all that much protein the one protein powder I’m using every now and then actually is SunWarrior Blend. It doesn’t contain any brown rice but a mix of pea, cranberry and hemp protein. Maybe that’d be an alternative?
Thank you! Hopefully I’ll come up with some yummy alternatives! My brain is already turning looking for new recipes! Thanks for the suggestion of the SunWarrior Blend! That does sound like it would be a way better option! I’ll have to check it out!
Hey Lisa,
I went through the same thing when I recovered from anorexia, and it’s taken me many years to sort it all out. I would caution you against relying on IGG testing, however. Although your naturopath will disagree with me, the testing is actually wildly inaccurate. It will indicate that foods you love to eat are ones you are allergic to, but that’s simply because you eat them often. We still have a lot to learn about the role of IgG in the body, but there’s actually a lot of allergy experts who think that it’s a GOOD thing (and has protective effects). I really don’t want you to chase this down to a dead end (been there and I wasted SO much money and time), so I hope you’ll consider some of this information! Here are a few articles from reputable sources:
http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/index.php/igg-food-intolerance-tests-what-does-the-science-say/
http://www.allergy.org.au/health-professionals/papers/unorthodox-techniques-for-diagnosis-and-treatment
http://chriskresser.com/rhr-can-autoimmune-disease-be-prevented-and-reversed (a natural practitioner who has tested the reliability of the tests, use ctrl+f and search for IgG or scroll down to “How to overcome IgG food sensitivity to eggs and milk”)
Hey Sarah! Thank you very much for that information! I’m going to read lots into it! I don’t want things to be inaccurate for me, but I do feel better for right now! I will definitely consider and read up on all that information. I guess I’ve just avoided milk/dairy for a while now so I didn’t really think too much of it since I hardly eat it anyways, but it’s always good to look at both sides. Is there anything out there that is more accurate in determining these intolerances? Thanks so much for those articles!
Lisa, I’m willing to bet (and hoping really!) that you don’t really have any intolerances, or perhaps very very few. It is likely due to everything that was stated above. A varied diet is key to keeping everything in homeostasis, and a lot of your symptoms do in fact come from not eating enough for your activity level.
One thing that might help you is incorporating more herbs/spices into your diet. Ex: peppermint is great for bloating (warm peppermint water…mmmmm!) and ginger is great for stomach upset & discomfort (warm lemon water with ginger
.
Also..do you take any medications/supplements/etc.? Some of those could affect how you are feeling. Further, if you aren’t taking a B-Complex vitamin I highly recommend it; without eating much meat (and unless you eat a lot of nutritional yeast daily) you probably aren’t getting all of the daily requirements for every B vitamin (and these are important in our stress response). I felt a lot more energy once I started taking my B vitamin daily. Also, perhaps your iodine is low? This causes your thyroid to slow, which leads to “depressed” symptoms: low energy, feeling cold, fatigue, constipation, dry skin, hair falling out, weight gain (but because of your healthy eating and exercise you wouldn’t have this symptom..I didn’t have this one either) and ended up having a slow thyroid and I surprised even my doctor when my results came back (yay for being a proactive nursing student!). Taking a Kelp tablet would help to make sure your thyroid stays fully functioning (and keeping your thyroid in check now would prevent you from ever having to take thyroid medicine daily like I do
)
It will take some time for you to overcome staying in your comfort zone related to food, but I’m confident you can do it.
I’ve actually had my thyroid tested and it’s all normal! I’m assuming my fatigued feelings are much more from a not varied diet and possible nutrient deficiencies because I don’t eat lots of meat! I definitely will look into a B vitamin! That definitely seems like a lot of my symptoms, so perhaps it’s that! Maybe I should get tested again just in case! I do take medications so perhaps this is an issue as well, I’ll check with my Doctor about this! Thanks for the peppermint and ginger suggestions, I’ve heard those are great so I’ll definitely incorporate them more into my diet! Thanks for your support!
Hi Lisa,
As far as I know, the gold standard for intolerances is to do an elimination diet. The most important part of that is only reintroducing one food at a time. I am sure your nutritionist can guide you through it. I went through an elimination diet with my nutritionist and found FODMAPs are the problem for me…but that’s not really an intolerance per se…it’s more a symptom of underlying issues (which we don’t completely understand yet!). I hope you get it all sorted, and are able to eat a varied diet with minimal restrictions because, as the other commenter said, I think that’s a very important part of keeping you and your digestion healthy!
So this is coming from an Ed survivor.
1. You’re bloated and constipated because you’re not eating enough to push the matter through your digestive track. No allergies, no tolerances you’re body is stressed and screaming for food. You need to eat more carbs and ruff age and drink more water
2) the bloat -you’re are malnourished. Starving children in Africa experience this too. You need to eat more.
I feel like you are expressing all of these restrictions as a way to support restriction and explain is for future pictures. You are still under weight and not eating enough for how you workout your blog is VERY inspiring for health and fitness, but it seems like the way you eat can’t be maintained unless you have an eating disorder or are very anal. Health is about being realistic and maintainable. Health is about not stressing about what you put in your body while nourishing it and expecting your diet will not be perfect 10% of the time. I think you would really benefit and feel better by gaining 10 to 15 lbs. you will physically feel better And it will not be something you have to stress about maintaining.
So many females are blogging about their eats and their fitness. Pictures galore. It’s really feeding the disorder, holding it accountable and exploiting it. Listing what you eat for every meal is telling yourself “you did good today because you’re able to photograph and show a perfect example of eating”
I hope you continue to recover and get to a place where food is not an obsession (or not eating it is). God bless
