Health Questions

Happy Sunday friends!

Time for another weekly survey. These are my favorite posts to do on the weekend when I’m not feeling particularly wordy. That makes sense doesn’t it?

I’m pretty excited that today will be focused purely on Christmas movie watching. Lazy Sunday’s at its finest!

Let’s get straight to it.

1. What did you eat for breakfast?

Pancakes! It’s pancake Sunday after all. I enjoyed these delicious pancakes again. Topped with almond butter.

Yum.

2. How much water do you drink a day?

I drink a ton of water.

I always have those 1 litre bottles and carry it around with me everywhere.

I’m going to guess I drink about 3 litres a day, it depends how busy I am during the day.

3. What is your current favorite workout?

Right now I’m enjoying spin (obviously) and actually really loving pilates.

So much so, that I haven’t been doing as much HIIT throughout the week, which is super weird for me.

I love how I can work all my little muscles in pilates and really put focus into my mind and body connection.

4. How many calories do you eat a day?

Calorie counting is dangerous territory for some people.

Even though I *try* not to count calories, I must admit, after years of constantly counting every single thing that I consumed, I definitely know how much I’m eating.

I’m a little afraid to completely give up my calorie counting ways. Judge me if you must, but it works fine for me right now.

I’d say I eat around 2000 calories a day, when it all adds up.

5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?

I have lots of snacks I love, I definitely go through phases though.

Right now I’m loving protein muffins and pumpkin fudge!

6. What do you usually eat for lunch?

I try and vary it up.

I love omelettes, kabocha, duh. Sometimes sandwiches, if I get a bread craving which is rare. Salads and soups are another favorite of mine too. Does chili count as soup? I guess not, but I like chili as well:)

7. What is your favorite body part to strength train?

I actually like strength training almost every body part, except biceps. I definitely think triceps would be by favorite though! I like the burn.

8. What is your least favorite body part to strength train?

Oops, answered that one above. Again, biceps are by far my least favorite.

9. What are your “bad” food cravings?

I’m a weirdo and don’t get “bad” food cravings.

I don’t think it’s a great thing to label food as good and bad anyways.

So much negativity when you view food as “bad or good” and let’s be honest, moderation is the key when eating all different types of food.

I guess my favorite indulgence is wine. I never crave ice cream, cake, chips, or anything like that.

10. Do you take vitamins or supplements?

Yep! I’ll do a separate post on this later, since I’ve received some questions about what I take.

11. How often do you eat out?

Not a lot at all.

Maybe once a month, sometimes not even that. I much prefer eating at home, I just like preparing my own food most of the time.

Probably due to my control issues, but I’m getting better at being open with going out to eat.

12. Do you eat fast food?

Not really. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had fast food.

Maybe when I’m travelling and pick up a salad. It’s never something extreme, no McDonald’s or anything.

I prefer healthier stops, like Subway or salad bars.

13. Who is your biggest supporter?

My Mom is probably my number one supporter.

Followed by my Dad, Step Dad, the rest of my family and friends. Plus all my readers!

You all are amazing for reading my blog each day and asking questions and e-mailing me. I really appreciate every single comment I get!

14. Do you have a gym membership?

Sure do.

I only use it to attend spin classes twice a week though.

I do all my own weight workouts, pilates, yoga, etc. at home.

I’ve spent a bit of money setting up a home gym and love being able to get in a kick butt workout right in my own living room.

I can always get tons of great workouts from my fellow fitfluential friends too.

15. How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

Man, these days not a ton.

I probably fall asleep around 12:30 and get up on average, at 5:30. That’s only about 5 hours each night, which is definitely not a lot.

On weekends it’s worse.

This week I should really working on changing that…

16. Do you have a “cheat” day?

No. I don’t like the idea of “cheat meals” or days.

I eat what I enjoy and if it happens to be not so healthy one day then so be it. I’m pretty healthy every other day of the year, so I don’t see myself denying foods just because it’s not a “cheat day”.

I used to be a huge fan of them a few years back, and it honestly didn’t end up too great.

I just got into a bad cycle and viewed food in such a negative way. Good food and bad food.

Food is for nourishment, energy and life not for judgement.

17. Do you drink alcohol?

Occasionally. I drink maybe once a week, if that.

I do love to enjoy a glass of wine or cocktails with friends, but I don’t drink more than once a week.

Just my preference.

18. Do you have a workout buddy?

Just my Mom. I’m really cool.

We go to spin every Tuesday and Thursday morning together.

She’s the one who actually got me hooked on spin since she’s been a spin instructor for the past 20 years!

19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?

There are tons of amazing things that have happened since adopting a healthy lifestyle.

I’ve been both overweight and most recently, extremely underweight. It’s been a long and very hard journey to find out what works right for my body and not all of it has been fun.

I think my attitude is number one. I used to be very depressed and couldn’t say one positive thing about myself. Now, I view myself in a completely new light. I don’t focus on negatives, but all the positive attributes about me instead.

I also love experimenting with food, creating healthy recipes and enjoying food without the fear I once held.

I’m also happier that I’m no longer a slave to exercise, rather do it because I love it so much.

20. What was the last healthy thing you did?

Meditated for 5 minutes.

Do you have a cheat day or meal? What do you think of cheat days?

Are you a calorie counter? Why or why not?

Favorite body part to train?

Have a fantastic Sunday!

Enjoy it to the fullest!

  1. Yay surveys! I love reading more about my fellow bloggers.

Right now, I’m not a fan of cheat meals/days either. I know that if I just tell myself “I can eat that on Saturday/cheat day” or whatever, I’ll go pretty nuts with it. I’d rather eat a few pieces of chocolate or go for froyo (or attack the ice cream that it’s currently in my freezer) whenever I feel a craving, rather than let it build up. I figure as long as I’m going by the 80/20 rule, I’m good.

    • I used to go really nuts with cheat days like that, but I just don’t like the idea of restricting from a food. If you want it go for it, we clearly all know how to eat healthy! I think the 80/20 rule is a pretty good guide for everyone! Imagine living life without little treats! Not cool.

  2. I love surveys :) Good job on trying to ditch the calorie counting, I know it’s not easy. I’m a wine lover myself, nothing like a refreshing glass of vino to cap off a night…

  3. I don’t count calories and I very rarely eat fast food… like maybe twice a year. I think itz gross and makes me feel gross. Blah!

  4. I love this post! Your pancake looks amazing:) And I drink a ton of water, too- it’s so imporant!

  5. That post is fantastic. I can relate on so many things! I also count calories SOMETIMES, I try not too much though cause I tend to freak out about it. And I love what you said in nr. 19. You can be so proud of yourself, being so much more postive and feel more self-love!! I cheat every day a little bit rather than have an entire cheat day.

  6. I agree/share basically all your answers, I mean duh:). Except, I really cannot stand alchohol, tastes like nail varnish remover to my tongue, & having seen some people get in such a drunk , sh*t-faced mess, makes it even more off-putting( obviously I’m not saying this is what you do though, ha!).

Oh hey, I’m a weirdo too. I also don’t crave ‘bad’(or whatever) foods. I try to fill myself with nourishing, energizing, nutritious foods, that will make me feel good, & benefit me. So why crave nutritionally void, rubbish that will do nothing, maybe even have negative effects for our health, & make me feel blah???
Others may disagree with this, but it works for me:), and you I’m guessing!

I’ve gone from hating training my legs, to LOVING it. Since getting hooked on Zuzana it’s hard to avoid training them, & her creative moves just make it fun for me.
    Xxx

    • Haha. Oh I totally agree with the drinking. I see some younger people get completely trashed and it’s super awkward. I mean I was like that at one time, but I’ve grown out of the phase. I know, I feel the same way with the nutritional food. I just don’t like feeling gross because of something I eat. Not my thing. I’ve actually started to love legs more too! It’s so weird, because I used to despise them, but I don’t mind them at all now!

  7. I don’t believe in cheat days and I try really hard not to count calories… besides we never really know how many calories are in things anyway!! :)
I love that your mom is into fitness too!!! So wish I had a workout buddy!

    • Definitely true! Especially when we’re eating tons of fruits and veggies, I don’t think we really need to worry about calories!

  8. Great post Lisa! I love hearing about everyone’s lives, routines, and habits! Thanks-have a great Sunday! :)

  9. Love your attitude and think it’s awesome you workout with your mom!!

  10. I love that you workout with your mom and that she teaches spin! My mom can’t do any intense exercise, but we love taking walks or going hiking together!

  11. The incredibly nosy part of me absolutely loves this survey – it’s always interesting to learn about the health habits of others :D I was a calorie counter for the longest time, but it got reaaaaally obsessive and unhealthy for me, and in the end I just got frustrated with how much time and energy it took so I weaned myself off it. It was scary as heck at first, but it’s honestly been the best thing I’ve ever done. And I can’t stand the idea of cheat meals. It implies that one is on a diet, and I’m not really a big fan of those either.

    • I’m incredible nosy too:) So I love when people post surveys! I think eventually I’ll wean myself off calorie counting, I’m sure there will be a point in life where I just don’t care about it much anymore!

  12. I always love reading surveys! I agree with the “cheat” I hate when people call it that! If you are truly craving something, don’t deny it – embrace it. Ha ha. I don’t get many cravings either, but when I want something I’ll have it. I usually crave wine or something;)

  13. I actually love to work out my legs and glutes. As weird as it sounds, when I was really tangled up in my ED, I actually liked the fact that I was not only rail thin, but had no butt. Hey, the thinner the better, right?! So while it’s still somewhat awkward when I try new clothes on and keep “forgetting” I’m not that thin anymore, and more muscle definition and a normal butt really grossed me out at the beginning of my recovery, I’m definitely WAY more comfortable looking like this now and would probably die of embarrassment if I ever got that skinny again! So it’s funny because I used to workout specifically to lose weight each time, but now I’m actually enjoying the fact that I see these nice, healthy changes in my body :)

And just like you, I used to count calories like crazy, so even though I try not to do it, I just *know* how much I’m consuming because it’s hard to forget! But it doesn’t rule how much I eat anymore…. there’ll be a nagging voice, but my actions definitely put a stop to it. If I”m hungry, I’m gonna eat, darn it. Not eating practically ruined my life — not goin’ down that road again!

    • I’m glad you’re much more confident in how you look! Confidence is so important! Wahoo to beautiful changes in our bodies! I feel the same, not eating enough ruined my life so I sure as heck will not listen to that nasty voice!

  14. I was a calorie counter for the past 6 months, and about a month ago I realized it was making me obsessive and crazy!! So I have stopped counting calories (for the most part) and feel a much greater sense of freedom and less stress to be “perfect” in my eating habits. It is still a daily struggle for me but I am taking it one day at a time!

    • It’s great to hear you were able to step back and realize calorie counting was getting obsessive and stopped it before it got out of hand! Definitely take it one day at a time!

  15. I love these Q&As and getting to know you better. We’d be at odds in the gym – biceps are my all-time favorite thing to workout. Leg day is what I dread. I do like spin though – wish my gym offered it!
