Pre New Years Things

It’s back to the Monday grind! Well, kind of…

I mean it’s New Years Eve! Can you even believe it?! This year has just passed by far too quickly! It’s kind of unreal honestly.

It just makes this Monday even more marvelous. Right now, I’m huddled up on this rainy afternoon with a cup of coffee and a comfy cozy blanket. Can’t get much better.

It’s been pretty lazy day over here. Every once in a while, those lazy days are totally necessary in my mind.

This weekend I’ve been completely obsessed with roasting zucchini.

I think I’ve had it everyday for almost the whole week.

lunch quinoa bowl

I enjoyed a simple bowl of quinoa, tomato paste, zucchini, cauliflower, nutritional yeast, and avocado for Lunch on Saturday.

So easy, so delicious.

Since my eating habits have been changing lately, I’ve spent the weekend trying to perfect some more breakfast options.

This one was pretty decent!

buckwheat bowl

Just some overnight buckwheat with some fun add ins, it needs a bit of work still.

Plus, it kind of looks awful. Ha.

My family has officially headed back to their own homes and I already miss having the whole family together. It was so nice to have my relatives here, even though the visit was short.

I’m still continuing on my rest week and I kind of can’t wait until it’s over. I’m going slightly stir crazy. I just need to keep myself occupied.

Instead of hitting the gym, I’ve been using my time for lots of baking. Most of which were failures. They taste good, but aren’t blog worthy yet.

Hopefully I’ll get a recipe posted sometime this week!

I managed to see some friends over the weekend as well.

friends

Fun times per usual.

This actually wasn’t from this weekend, but same thing.

Of course after a late night out coffee is a must.

Weekends deserve a trip to Starbucks. Always.

I’ve been using my coffee maker all week, so haven’t even been at all the past few days.

starbucks

I think the employees must have been shocked I didn’t come in everyday like I usually do.

It was kind of sad to see people leave Starbucks holiday cup-less. Only some drinks were still served in the lovely holiday cups.

How come they don’t last until the new year?!

And don’t you think they should totally have Easter cups, Halloween cups, etc. That would just be so cool.

One more thing I think is pretty amazing. This 26 Random Acts of Kindness.

random acts of kindness

I love the idea of doing simple, little things in order to make someone else’s day better.

Of course the most important things is that these acts are in honour of the victims at Sandy Hook Elementary.

It’s a small act, but sometimes those things can be significant to someone else. They all add up to awesome things in the end and being more kind in life has never hurt anyone before.

I’m definitely going to be participating.

With all that, the weekend has come to an end, but I guess technically not since it’s a holiday tomorrow so I take that back.

Hope you all have a safe and marvelous celebration tonight!

Any plans for New Years Eve?

Do you set any resolutions or goals for the new year?

See you all next year!

  1. I totally agree with the holiday cups! They should last much longer and yes, Easter cups would be so cool! I like this 26 acts of kindness, I saw that before and find it beautiful. Yay for a rest week girl, so good! I feel horrible today, I’ll have a rest too and no party tonight as planned :-(
    Happy New Year!!!

  2. NYE plans will be low key for me this year – dinner with my bro and sis and significant others and then a party with our good friends! :)

  3. Lovin your kitchen creations! Your eats always have so much creativity! :)
My only plans for tonight are to watch the ball drop then crash like a zombie hahaha
    Happy New Year’s eve friend!!

  4. Glad you had a good weekend! You look beautiful in that picture!

Just focus on other things girl! I know how HARD it is to not work out, I was at least allowed to go walking, not sure if you are, but that helped me. I know it is cold as hell though, so probably not good for walking!

I think Starbucks should have other holiday cups! How about some valentine’s ones with heart! Now that would be cute!

Happy New Year friend! <3 Have a beautiful one! Lots of great things ahead in 2013 for you!

    • Thank you Katie! You’re right, as long as I put my focus on other things instead of worrying about not working out, everything will go smoothly! I know it gets easier with time! Wouldn’t that be the best! I think Starbucks should totally go with those ideas! Happy New Year to you too beauty!

  5. I would love to see other holiday cups at Starbucks! NYE will be spent in with the fam. The kids love having sparkling white grape juice and staying up late. Hope your NYE is fabulous!!

  6. Happy NYE! I’m totally up for year round holiday cups at Starbucks! How fun would it be to have Easter and Halloween cups too! I think the 26 acts of kindness is such a sweet idea. I’m so happy you are spreading the message of it!

  7. Starbucks should absolutely have holiday cups for all of the holidays. That would be so festive!

    Have a safe, happy, and awesome New Year’s Eve/New Year’s!! :)

  8. Taking a rest week isn’t the easiest, but it’s so necessary once in a while! i did the same thing last week (and will be having an easy week this week) and I know my body enjoyed the rest. Yours will too!
Have a great night tonight Lisa!

    • Thanks for the encouragement and support! It can be tough to take a rest week when you see other people posting their workouts, but I know it will only benefit my body more!

  9. No more holiday cups?!? Say it ain’t so! I haven’t been in Bux yet today, but I’m really hoping that they have some leftover holiday cups… I’m not quite ready to go back to the plain white ones just yet, and I’m definitely on board for having special cups for other occasions as well :D

Hope you have a great night, Lisa! I’ll be heading out to the movies and hopefully catching the fireworks if it’s not too cold. Stay safe <3

    • I know! I was quite devastated that they’re running out! Boo. Hope you enjoyed your New Year’s, which from the sounds you did!

  10. You look so pretty with bright lipstick on it. I hope you have a good new years celebration!

  11. I love the message behind the 26 acts of kindness campaign as well. Have a great NYE!

  12. Hi :)
I can understand your soft spot for zucchini just too well! Oh I adore roasted zucchini, but I guess it’s tasty in almost everything (e.g. oatmeal :D ).
However, I just wanted to say: your blog is cool :)

    • Thank you very much Lara! Oh man, zucchini is so underrated in my opinion! It’s just delicious, and yes in oatmeal too!

  13. This year certainly did fly by!
I think the Starbucks cups are probably changed over already because they started giving them out in July, haha (ok, maybe October ;) )

  14. For New Year’s this year I am keeping it low key and just enjoying a dinner out with my parents. The disappearance of the red cups always makes me sad too!

  15. Whoa, totally just got inspired to make that lunch tomorrow. What a tasty combo of ingredients! I love grain bowls like that…and anything with nooch & avocado is going to be incredible, that is a given.
Are you able to eat bulgar?( it’s definitely one of my most favourite grains) It can be made into a pretty yummy breakfast, & blended with other stuff to create creamy deliciousness:).

Well I just think it is so good & admirable that you took a rest week. I mean , it shows that exercise & your workouts don’t OWN you. Even though taking a break may feel uncomfortable at times, & you may feel compelled to exercise despite your body still needing rest- the important thing is you aren’t acting on the compulsions. Which is huge. It shows how much progress , & work you are putting into developing a healthy relationship with exercise, I think. As well as the effort to get your body into a healthy , balanced state. You should be feeling pretty accomplished for following through with your rest week<3, even the top athletes do it!

    Happy New Year love!!
    Xxx

    • Mmm, me too! They are so delicious! Yes, I can eat bulgur! I’m going to go buy some, because I used to love it! Exactly, I think it’s important I’m not reacting on the compulsions I get to exercise, because I know deep down I need the break! That’s so true Sarah! I need to remember everyone needs rest, even athletes, so why wouldn’t I deserve that too. Well, I do:) xox
