A Follow Up

Morning and Happy Thursday!

I can’t believe it’s nearly the weekend again. Nuts.

First off, I want to wish my wonderful friend a Happy Birthday!

She’s one of my very best friends and has been with me through thick and thin.

I want to back up and make a “follow-up” post on the goodbye one I wrote last week. I’ve finally taken a step back, processed some thoughts, and realized I need to make some changes.

More on that in a minute, this morning I was craving a little chocolate, so I did what any normal? girl would do.

Added some to my morning breakfast, obviously.

cocoa oat bran

Oat bran, banana, chia seeds, raw cacao powder and stevia, topped with the usual peanut flour paste.

Oh so delicious.

Clearly, I like to assemble my breakfasts to look like healthier versions of desserts. Carrot cake, pumpkin pie, banana cream, coconut cream, I could go on with this for a while.

Now, back to what I wanted to discuss today… I think I was living in a little bit of a fog, believing everything was peachy keen, when in fact there are still some things I need to work on.

Honestly, it was the comments from you guys in that post that really opened me eyes.

This month, I’ve realized how blessed I am to have created this blog and each comment I get, whether negative or positive, I really try and appreciate what the person is saying to me.

apple

{ I’ve been enjoying apples lately, since I thought they were causing my distress; thankfully not }

They aren’t trying to be rude, they are trying to help (for the most part) and I think I just realized this.

With all that being said, I firstly would like to apologize for my post and I’m truly sorry if it offended anyone. I didn’t mean to come across that way.

I know allergies are very serious, as I do have on myself. I didn’t mean for it to offend people with serious allergies because looking back at it, it maybe did come across that way.

No, I’m not allergic to dairy, eggs, brown, rice, cashews, etc. I have a sensitivity.

davids tea

Thank you to the few commenters who pointed out it is most likely from eating these foods in excess.

I wasn’t eating egg whites in moderation, I really was overdoing it. I probably ate a total of 1 cup of egg whites a day, plus an egg sometimes.

That’s just too much everyday for a person, and now I’ve developed a sensitivity.

I also realize I will be able to introduce these foods into my diet again, I just need to be careful not to overdo it.

Right now, I won’t be eating them and I don’t know how long this will be for, I’m guessing around 6 months to start and I’ll see if my digestive habits have improved at all.

I’m really just trying to experiment with which foods do and don’t agree with me. I’m not doing this to be restrictive, just to get some everyday relief.

cookie dough balls
{ snacking on cookie dough balls }

I’m thankful for all of you supporting this decision…well if you do.

Again, reading back my post I think I took it a little too extreme, since I won’t have to give these foods up forever just right now.

I’ll finish with yet another apology because I do feel very bad that people were upset with how I stated things.

Thanks to everyone who reads, I appreciate you all! Thanks for making it to the end of this post (if you did).

To finish, I do want to add that I feel SO much better now that I’ve eliminated the sensitivities, it just goes to show how much I was overdoing it. I’m really just trying to heal my gut right now, since I’ve been in a lot of physical pain in the past and things are finally looking up in that department.

Let’s end on a more upbeat note that has nothing to do with this post.

Do you prefer tea or coffee?

Do you drink it black or with added sweetener/milk? Clearly I’m a black coffee lover.

Have a great day!

  1. I hear ya girl. It’s sweet of you to apologize but I know you didn’t mean to offend anyone and to be honest, the difference between an “allergy”, an “intolerance” and a “sensitivity” is just SO hard for any normal person to discern – I mean, it requires a friggin medical test right? I have a lot of food sensitivities/intolerances/allergies and I’m not sure what caused them, but you’re right, overdoing it can be one thing. Another can be under-doing it. So, for example I’m lactose intolerant. This is pretty common but part of me thinks it MAY be because during my ED i did not eat any dairy, so then once I tried to re-introduce it during my reovery, my stomach was like “umm….hahaha yeah, no”. On the other hand I am also gluten-intolerant (I just got all KINDS of problems lol!!) and I think that might be because I way overdid it on gluten – like, it was basically in EVERYTHING I ate. And I also am allergic to peanuts and almonds. In a weird way, you can almost tell the difference between an intolerance and an allergy by what the reaction to the food feels like.

ok I’m rambling now, but basically I’m really glad you’re listening to YOUR body and trying to eat what makes you feel best! Honestly I don’t care what you call it and no one else should care too much either – intolerance, allergy, whatever – if it makes ya feel like crap, don’t eat it right? :-)

  2. I love your dress and makeup in the first picture, so pretty! Your best friends looks so beautiful too! Happy birthday to her!

There is so need to say sorry. Commenters on my blog have opened my eyes in the past as well. :) We all learn from our mistakes.

  3. I can’t do black coffee – I need a little something in it! And I LOVE your dress in that first pic!!

  4. No worries girl! I saw nothing offensive in your last post and there is no need to apologize. This is your blog, your space, your body. If you choose to cut out foods that don’t make you feel so good all the more power to you. I am glad you realized that this will only be temporary and doesn’t need to be a life change. I’m glad to hear you will be able to enjoy these foods again in moderation!

  5. Thank you so much for this post. It serves as a great reminder for me to eat ALL foods, even healthy foods, in moderation and to work to find a good balance between the foods that I am eating. It may not necessarily be good for me to eat something (even if it is healthy) in excess or on a daily basis. This is a great reminder of that. Thanks! :)

  6. I am a total tea girl!! I have tried coffee several times and I just don’t like it!

  7. Definitely coffee for me–usually with some skim milk and decaf after noon time!

  8. It is hard to get comments disagreeing with you on a post, I know that I sometimes take it too personally, but really most people are just being caring and fresh insights are always good for us to hear! LIke you said, they made you realize your post was a bit extreme (though I don’t really think it was!) In the end I just want you to feel better. Stomach troubles suck especially for someone in recovery. Anything in the food world that throws us for a loop can be so stress inducing. I hope that your new plan works for you my dear!

  9. I think it can be tough to find what our bodies need and even from someone like me with a serious allergy I know that even sensitivities just suck. I don’t think you offended anyone – I think if anything this is a great reminder about moderation and balance

  10. You have the best dresses I have ever seen. I want to go shopping with you so you can tell me what to buy! I do the same thing with breakfasty oat bran. Apple pie, chocolate peanut butter, coconut banana, zucchini bread, the list goes on…

  11. Crazy to think that that can happen if you overdo it with certain foods – it definitely goes to show the need for a variety of foods in your diet. I wasn’t offended at all, but I think it’s awesome that you posted this for anyone that was! Hopefully you’ll be able to reintroduce your favourites ASAP (but more in moderation, of course)

  12. Although a sensitivity isn’t exactly an allergy, it is still something that doesn’t sit well with your body and I honestly don’t think that requires an apology. You need to do what is best for YOU! You know that it isn’t a forever type of deal, but thankfully you feel better now that you have cut some of these things out. I agree with Sam – it’s crazy how you can develop a sensitivity if you over-do certain foods. Makes me think about my own stomach issues, because I think I definitely over-do it on a ton of different foods!

  13. Yep that can definitely happen! I eat eggs nearly every morning, so I hope and pray I never become sensitive to them – they’re super tasty! Sucks, right? I know you’ll be able to figure out what works for you in a non-restrictive way, though, Lisa :)

  14. I have my fingers crossed that your digestives problems subside sometime soon! It really is crazy that our bodies will start rejecting food, huh? I guess our bodies really do need variety. :) .

  15. GIRL, you do NOT need to apologize. This is YOUR space. You do not have to adjust your words to appease anyone. That is sort of defeating the purpose of YOUR blog. I appreciate you realizing that in our criticism lies our biggest lessons. That is so admirable and strong of you. It it def important for us to take lessons from our criticism. But never apologize to please others. A thank you is all they need. <3 And speaking of which, I'm so thankful for YOUR honesty as always. Here for you always babe. xo

  16. Naaah, I don’t think you need to apologise at all. This is YOUR blog, & you don’t owe nobody nothing on here. We are all works in progress, & I don’t remember you claiming to be perfect/have all the answers.
So don’t beat yourself up. I think you are doing a marvelous job of listening to advice, taking everything into consideration, and working towards healing yourself:).

And hey, if you are able to re-introduce eggs at some point, maybe try what I do- use only real eggs.
All the cracking, seperating, expense, & occasional wasting of yolks, makes it kinda off-putting using eggs all that often & exercise moderation.

Happy Birthday to your beautiful friend!
    Xxx

  17. I have a serious allergy and I wasn’t offended by your post at all… You don’t have to apologize, Lisa, especially since it’s so difficult to decipher exactly what it is that our bodies are trying to tell us. I think you might have the right idea when it comes to overdoing it on certain foods though. The same thing happened to me with oatmeal, and while I’m currently on a break from it, I’m hoping to introduce it back and see how it goes :)

  18. I have had so many issues with food sensetivites as well. I had to stop eating sun warrior because I was totally overdoing it and started to feel horrible from that. I’ve been trying to just switch it up and not eat the same things all the time. It’s much easier said than done. I hope you figure it all out.

  19. Everyone has a food thing – don’t feel bad! We all have to draw a line and do what is right for us.

Coffee. Black. Like my soul. (KIDDING! ;) )

  20. Oh sweetie, I missed your post about food issues. I hope you are feeling okay. I trust what you said and hope that you are being true to yourself when saying that it is not restrictive. I am a firm believer in finding foods that work for your body. As long as you are adding lots of other nutritious foods into your diet to replace what you need to cut out I think that’s A-okay in my book! Happy new year and I am glad to be blogging again! Need to catch up!

  21. Your breakfast looks so good and healthy!

I need my morning coffee with milk and then green tea for the rest of the day!

  22. As much as I understand your apology, I don’t think it’s needed sweetie. This is YOUR blog, your place to express how your feeling. Don’t ever feel like you need to apologize for anything, or to anyone <3

Also, I hope your digestive problems ease up for you. I know how hard and frustrating it can be. Sending you many prayers across the ocean.

  23. You have such willpower to eliminate those foods. I KNOW I need to eliminate dairy and eggs…like you i believe it is a true sensitivity due to EXCESS (i.e. 3 WHOLE eggs per day, multiple tubs of greek yogurt, etc). howeer, I still haven’t been able to break it. Particularly whole eggs which I devour :(
    I must.
But I hear that 90 day elmination is fine. Even 30 days is good. But 90 days (3 months is solid). Intereesting.
I wish I had your willpower. Maybe I ought to email ya, ha.
