what I ate wednesday

This past week has been a rather pleasant week. It kind of feels it should be Friday but alas it’s not. That doesn’t make it any less great though.

After a rough last week, I’ve come through the other side I realize I was being quite ridiculous with it all. I was really vague on why I was feeling this way, but it is good news. Well for me at least, I’m sure others could care less. After a few years of no monthly cycle, it has finally returned.

Enough about that for now, let’s move on to the food. After all, it’s WIAW.

Breakfast -

oat bran

I returned to my old staple, oat bran. Oat bran, chia seeds, hemp seeds, banana, peanut flour on top.

My naturopath mentioned trying out L-Glutamine to help repair some of the digestive problems I’ve been having so I finally got around to picking some up. Well, I tried it out and ended up feeling kind of weird after it. Not sure why. It was such an odd feeling! Has anyone else experienced this?

Lunch -

socca

Socca, coconut oil, nutritional yeast, zucchini, asparagus, hummus, avocado.

It’s been a while since I’ve had socca and I just so happened to get in a new shipment of garbanzo bean flour from iherb, so of course I had to make socca as part of my Lunch.

Snack -

DSC02847

Oats, protein powder, coconut flour, stevia, and pumpkin.

There was a weaning bowl of pumpkin in my fridge, so I decided to use the rest of it to make one of my favorite pumpkin cookie dough bowls.

Quick, easy, and a satisfying snack before my next meal.

Dinner -

dinner bowl

Turkey, zucchini white sweet potato, green beans, dill, and creamy tahini sauce (except I halved it and used sunflower seed butter since I don’t like tahini).

I had plans to try out a new Dinner, but I got home late so I just threw together a mish-mash of left over things I had from the weekend.

Combined for a random, but delicious bowl for Dinner.

My evening snack will be my new vegan muffin with coconut frosting and almond butter to finish it up. The lighting is unfortunate at night, so no pictures for you.

Do you use L-Gluatime? Have you experienced any side effects?

Any Dinner recipes you’d like to link up? I need some new ideas to try out!

Do you snack before bed? It’s a must for me.

Hope you’re having a fantastic Wednesday!

  1. YAY!!! I am so glad girl that everything is back to normal!!
Your food looks yummy as always. I am dying to go and try these cauliflower recipes from my trainer Shannon: http://www.badassfitness.com/2013/01/cavegirl-eats-in-defense-of-cauliflower-the-underrated-veggie/
Maybe that’s something for you too! Happy Wednesday!

  2. I keep hearing about socca. I need to try it!

  3. i usually eat a fairly large dinner so i’m not usually hungry before bed. however, many nights my sweet tooth is a-ragin’ so i def feed that :)

  4. Oh man hooray for normalcy! Not so hooray for all the weird, funky feelings that come along with it. Regardless, I’m happy for you!
It all looks yummy, and I’m dyinggg to try your coconut frosting! Night snacks are a definite must over here too! Have a great day!
    xoxo

  5. I do use L-Glutamine, mostly after workouts because it is SO important in muscle repair and recovery. I actually did hear that it is supposed to help with stomach issues as well, but I haven’t had any weird side effects from it, so that’s strange! Everything you eat looks delicious as usual :D

  6. I haven’t used glutamine before, but I’ve never heard of a reaction like that. Maybe your body’s just not used to it?
And absolutely a snack before bed. If I skip it, I’ll wake up at 4 am ready to chew my arm off.

  7. Hi! Your snack looks nice, do you have the recipe for it? Thanks xx

  8. Dinner ideas. Hmm. I’m always one for soup! Cooked carrots topped with coconut oil. I just made some cauliflower “risotto” that was pretty good. Those are all sides though. Combined maybe for a full meal? Idk. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Glad that you’re coming through your rough patch. Just wanted to say that I loved your post on Clean Eating yesterday. Really good!

  9. Your meals look great! As usual. I’ve never taken L-glutamine but I would definitely try taking it a few more times to see if the side effects continue. It may just be your body adjusting to it!

  10. I am so glad to hear that things are back to normal! Your meals look delicious! Sometimes the best meals are the ones you throw together last minute! I ALWAYS have a snack before bed! I don’t think I can fall asleep without a snack! Have a great Wednesday Lisa!

  11. How do your make your socca? Can’t say I’ve ever actually made it, but I do have some chickpea flour handy!

I def. snack before bed, it’s a must here too.
    Happy WIAW!

  12. ALWAYS snack before bed :) ALWAYYYYYS! And I shared a new recipe today if you wanna try it :D

    Chat later <3 Love u

  13. GIRL so glad you made the creamy tahini sauce!! ;] and I take glutamine twice a day and haven’t noticed those issues – maybe it’s because you’re new to it? Not sure! Wish I could help more! Your eats look awesome! <3

  14. you must be so relieved to have your cycle back. It must have been so frustrating playing the waiting game. I used to take powder glutamine when I was lifting more. All the ones I have tried have a funny taste that I just got used to.

  15. The muffin sounds good and coconut frosting? I’m going to have to try it!

  16. I have actually never heard of L-Gluatime lol guess I’ll have to look that up at work ;) I know when I take something new it usually takes some time for my body to get used to it– so hopefully that’s the case with you. I kinda wish I snacked before bed, but usually I don’t lol I have dinner late so that’s prob why lol

  17. I am glad you are feeling better!

  18. Okay so I hope this doesn’t come across as completely awkward but… Yay for things going back to normal! As someone who’s been through the same thing, I know how big of a deal that is, and it’s definitely worth celebrating :) Big hugs, hun!!

And oh yes… bedtime snacks are definitely a must – sometimes multiple times!

    • Not awkward at all Amanda! Thanks for the support!:) Haha, yes! Sometimes I do the multiple bedtime snack as well! No use being hungry in the middle of the night! That’s not a fun time.

  19. yes, glutamine! use use use! but just regular glutamine in powder form. It’s the best, and healing!!

  20. I’ve never tried glutamine but it sounds interesting. I’m giving paleo a try to see if it helps my digestive issues. Plus I wanted to see what it’s all about! I’m definitely a night time snacker. I tend to do apples and almond butter with cinnamon but have been loving banana ice cream lately. Even though it’s freezing out!

  21. I absolutely have to snack before bed! If I go to bed even a little bit hungry I can’t sleep and that just makes me sleepier, crankier and hungrier the next day. Bad news.

  22. Yay for your cycle coming back!!!!! Congrats girl!!!!! :) I’m still waiting… bummer. I must snack at night too!

  23. Snack before bed is 100% essential… I can’t imagine not having one actually lol
And seriously, WAHOOOOOO for your cycle coming back, oh my gosh I am so dang happy for you :D

  24. I definitely snack before bed. I know that they say you shouldn’t, or that it is “bad for you,” but if I do not snack then I wake up with a rumbling tummy…and we don’t want that! ;)

    • Oh man, I’m not falling for that dumb don’t eat after 7. So silly! I’d just wake up in the middle of the night and eat anyways probably ha.

  25. Happy Wednesday!

    I have never tried glutamine.
An awesome dinner recipe are these chicken patties, http://www.optimistichealth.com/2012/05/best-savory-chicken-patties.html. They are seriously my favorite!!

Yes I do snack before bed in fact I just ate two Katie’s Vitamuffins. Food is good always!!

Ps. that’s good you are back to normal cycle. It sucks after getting it again at first but it’s so vital for our health as women, so I always remind myself of that :)

    • Thanks for the recipe! Going to check it out now! Oh, I’ll have to also check out Katie’s vitamuffin recipe. Thanks Carley! I feel good about the cycle returning now:)

  26. It’s been so long since I’ve made some socca!! You’ve inspired me to cook some up . . . it’s sooo yummy! p.s. i’m soo proud of you, your body is telling you that you’re doing everything right! xo

  27. YAY on your first bit of news!! Even though dealing with icky feelings every month is in no way fun, it must be a relief to know your body is humming along the way it’s supposed to be. You should be SO proud of yourself for taking a leap of faith and making lifestyle changes. Love you! <3

You won't believe this, but I've never tried socca. I'm way overdue, don't ya think? Yours looks delicious! The digestive enzymes that I take each day (sometimes twice) contain L-glutamine, and they've really helped heal my stomach. I remember feeling a little funky the first week I began taking them, so hopefully your body will begin to adjust soon.

A big YES for nighttime snacking! I always have casein, peanut butter and dark chocolate before climbing into bed, however it's not uncommon for me to snack on coconut milk ice cream or popcorn as well. :) Hugs! xoxo

    • Thanks love! Oh my, you’ve definitely got to try it! It’s so good! I think it was just the initial phase of taking it, because I feel totally fine now! Oh, I know you love your nighttime snacks! Coconut milk ice cream is definitely a win there.

  28. i love pumpkin cookie dough; its so amazingly delicious yum!
im definitely into night time snacking and always have something with casein in – normally a big bowl of some concoction ive made up!

That is such good news!! Glad that you are feeling and getting better.
