Good morning friends! It’s Friday and I really need it to be Friday and have some coffee talk.
Man oh man, you wouldn’t believe my night, it was brutal.
I’ll tell you all about it at the end of this post. Let’s start with some fun and end with the serious stuff.
1. Instead of relying on my faithful coffee first thing, I’ve decided to switch it up with my favorite tea.
{ this is actually yogi tea, not my current favorite hot cinnamon spice }
This makes me feel a bit better about the fact that I’m consuming an insane amount of caffeine right before Lunch. Coffee feels more satisfying at that time.
2. Coconut Butter on everything.
{ Roasted kabocha squash and coconut butter }
Heaven in my mouth.
3. I’m obsessed with Pretty Little Liars. I may or may not have bought all the previous seasons to re-watch.
It’s official, I kind of want to steal all of their clothes on that show. Seriously such cute outfits!
4. A little while ago I got super burnt out on baking. Now after taking some time off from the kitchen, I’m totally itching to get back in there!
{ deconstructed coconut pumpkin fudge “fudge” }
This is about as creative in the kitchen as I’ve been the past few weeks…
Coconut Pumpkin Fudge
- 1/4 cup pumpkin
- 1 tablespoon coconut butter
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
- sweetener of choice
- 1/2 tablespoon protein powder or cocoa powder (I like cocoa powder version better)
Melt the coconut butter and coconut oil a little before mixing in the pumpkin, sweetener, and cocoa powder. Next place in the fridge or freezer for a few hours or however long before digging in. Simply and delicious!
5. Go pick up May Cause Miracles now.
Before I decided to commit myself to the 40 day challenge, I read through the book before. I like to know what I’m getting myself into before I actually start these plans:) If you don’t know who Gabrielle Bernstein, well, firstly she’s that much cooler to me since I met her. Just kidding, she’s an incredible, inspiring motivational speaker and a New York Times best selling author.
Throughout the 40 days, she includes a morning and evening reflection and affirmations, but with all “self help” books you do need to commit to doing the work, but let me tell you it’s worth it.
This book helps to transform ourselves, using “subtle shifts” to create a more desirable and improved life. Anyone want to join me in this spiritual journey? I mean who wouldn’t want to help change their lives so they’re more exceptional, simply by making little changes?!
6. I’m crying a river over Justin Timberlake’s new single. Guys, I had high hopes for this one, but sadly it just didn’t make me want to put on my party pants.
{ they were like the Selena Gomez and Justin Beiber of the 90′s }
I think I’m having a harder time dealing with the fact that him and Britney aren’t together anymore than the two of them ever were. Seriously JT, you and Brit Brit belong together. I’m still holding on hope that they will get back together one day.
7. As we all know by now, I spend an embarrassing amount of time at Starbucks. I’ve managed to go there so often that they leave me fun messages on my cup now. I kind of love it.
Or maybe you consider it sad because it means I go there too often. Yep, I’m that girl.
8. Yay coffee. I love you
9. Lastly, let me tell you about the oh so awesome night I had.
So, I’ve been going through these bouts of what I thought were panic attacks. Not being able to sleep at night because my chest feels tights, shortness of breath, constant migraines, heart racing, let’s just say the past few days were brutal to get through.
It all came to a halt last night when I ate Dinner, and immediately broke out into hives and my throat started swelling. It was not pretty, let’s just say I felt awful and ran upstairs to my parents freaking out…just a tad;)
Anyway, I don’t know if I’ve mentioned the fact that I’m allergic to mustard-this is including the mustard greens (but I mostly got a severe reaction from just the greens, mustard powder, and mustard). Well before the past week or so, I was able to eat foods from the mustard green family, including kale, broccoli, cauliflower, and brussels sprouts in daily amounts, as long as they were on the small serving size. Never too much, or I’d start getting hives…
Well it has become apparent that I can not eat these foods at all anymore without breaking out into hives. I will not be making this mistake again. Good riddance mustard and mustard greens. Ah, it was scary but thankfully everything seems to be better now. I’ll be heading to the Doctor sometime next week to talk about this allergy, since it’s a pretty big one. Especially when you don’t know what veggies are being grown alongside the mustard greens and can cross-contaminate.
Such is life. Okay, enough of that rant for today.
Do you have any food allergies?
Have you been baking anything special this week?
Do you drink coffee or tea first thing in the morning?
Have a fantastic Friday!

hahahaha they leave messages for me on my cup at DAVIDsTEA too
!!!!!!!! Love you girl
I have to try your fudge!!! Looks sooooo good!!!!
I haven’t done any baking for a while, but I’m thinking about putting together some banana bread this weekend – I can’t even remember the last time I made it.
And that’s scary about your reaction! I’ve never had any allergies, thankfully, but I would definitely be freaking out in that situation too. Although I had absolutely no idea that broccoli and cauliflower were in the mustard green family. Good thing that you got that doctors appointment!
Pretty Little liars is the greatest show on earth. I don’t even care that it’s meant for teenage girls.
I’m so glad you are okay. Hives are super scary. I’ve had two episodes of hives, but for me, the doctors never figured out what caused them.
Cross-contamination is some serious stuff. I hope your doctor is able to help you figure out a solution. Gluten and dairy and nuts are easier to avoid because they have to be listed on the ingredients list, but not mustard… I’m sorry you have such an odd ball allergy
oh no!!! hives from greens? I’m sorry friend. But at least youre not allergic to wine or coffee. Right? hugs!
Oooooohhhh I wish my Starbucks left me messages! At least you know what is causing your allergic reaction! Hope you’re feeling better today.
Your fudge sounds amazing! I want to make some now! I agree with you on the new Justin Timberlake song. I was so excited about it and I’m just not a fan!
We are definitely on the same page in regards to JT’s new song. It is just such a disappointment. It seems like this seems to be a common opinion, too :/.
Sorry to hear about your bad/scary night!! I am glad to hear that you are okay, though!
Heck yes to coconut butter on everyyyything! I’m obsessed with the stuff – it’s just too good. I love pretty little liars, I want all of their outfits, too! Sorry to hear about the allergy, that’s a bummer
Feel better! <3
ugh hives?? that stinks! at least you know what it is from, that is always scary stuff
The first thing I thought when I saw that picture of JT and Brit was “Man, I wish they had ended up together!!” They were pretty much the epitome of my growing up years, and I miss them being together! Such a shame.
Anywho, that’s really scary with the allergic reaction
I have a really severe allergy to peanuts that, thankfully, we discovered when I was really young so I’ve never had any life-threatening reactions, but it’s scary to think about things like cross-contamination, and the fact that a reaction isn’t always the tell-tale rash and itchiness… sometimes it can cause things like a shift in mood and cloudy thoughts as well. I hope you’re doing better today, hun!
I can’t believe you’re allergic to mustard and mustard greens! I absolutely love mustard, especially dijon, so I would be so upset if I found out I was allergic! Thankfully, I don’t have any food allergies… Not any I’m aware of, anyway!
Eep my girl! I am so sorry you are going through all this allergy stuff! I also am sure that the panic attacks and stress/anxiety you are feeling is NOT helping these allergic reactions to lessen in severity at all. I’m thinking of you and hoping that MCM will continue to help you in the ways it has been helping me and so many others
I loveeee that coffee image. I pinned it for sure. And how nice that you got that cheery Starbucks cup! Once a barista drew a pumpkin on mine and wrote “Happy Fall!” she may have just been bored but man I appreciated it.
I didn’t like “Suit & Tie” first either, but it’s really grown on me since seeing Justin’s Grammy performance!
I love that they leave you messages at Starbucks! I drink hot coffee or tea every morning and again after work before class. In the summer its iced coffee! Have you ever tried fresh markets coffee’s? They are my favorite, so tasty and much friendlier on my student budget than frequenting Starbucks.
I am so sorry about the horrible reaction but thankfully you are doing good. I was a coffee drinker but now I need my first cup of green tea every morning. I just love it. I havent baked anything this week although I am thinking about some pumpkin donut holes this weekend.
Oh no girl!! I’m so sorry about the allergy problem!!! You know I have all kinds of crazy food allergies. We keep saying we need to chat soon. Lets plan a date soon!
…Not going to lie, JT’s new song is warming on me.
I’ve downloaded a sample of May Cause Mircales on my Kindle – it sounds like something I really need to read right now, so I’ll give it a go. Anything that can help me feel better is a win!
I don’t have any food allergies as such, but I can’t eat oats too often as they make my heart race, I’m intolerant to caffiene and I can’t have too much dairy or fruit. So not allergic, just fussy!
When I was younger I always thought I must be allergic to kiwi fruit because they made my tongue furry, and I would always brag about my allergy to them. Then I found out they make everyone’s tongue furry. Whoops.
I can’t start my day without decaf coffee. It’s a must.
I love your blog! Glad you are ok! No definite food allergies but I definitely feel bad if I’m eating a lot of sugar and flour products. I start my morning with kukicha tea, but I loveee coffee. I baked vegan cupcakes for valentines. Have a nice weekend !
Thankfully no food allergies. Coffee all the way. I made an amazing chocolate quinoa cake this week. The book you mentioned sounds fantastic I’ll have to check it out.
Hi Lisa! I just found your blog, it’s so cute!! First, I love Kobacha! We have it everywhere here in South Korea. I haven’t ever tried Coconut butter… nor have I seen it here. Hmm.. maybe the next time we get to the states ill have to search that down. Secondly, don’t be ashamed, I LOVE Pretty little liars too! I’m hooked! Let’s raid their closets together
Third, your hair is gorgeous in that photo! Forth, I wasn’t into Timberlake’s new album either. Now Jessica B and him?! Whoa… Fifth, I am so that girl in Starbucks! I just cannot get enough of the coffee, lattes, and atmosphere. All three are so soothing and addictive! Lastly, stay away from the mustards girl!
Oh no! I hope everything is okay now. Having a greens allergy would be awful
!!
I’ve been drinking only Vietnamese coffee in the morning and I love it because it’s STRONG and it keeps me up the entire day! I love Pretty Little Liars too! I’m waiting for the season to be over so I can watch it all at once, uninterrupted!
Oh, Vietnamese coffee sounds like something I’d totally enjoy!
I can’t stand watching all the episodes scattered about, so I totally prefer to watch them at the end of the season as well!
