It’s Okay

Sometimes we get a little caught up in those small things that really don’t matter at the end of the week. We have too much on our plates, completely over-think the days away.

When we get overwhelmed, things can build up and feel the need to constantly overstimulated. It’s really pointless to think this way, it doesn’t serve us in a positive direction but leads us to unnecessary anxieties. Life is much too short to focus on insignificant things.

We add useless pressure into our lives focusing on the future, when we can sit back and enjoy the journey of life, be happy in the present moment, and just let go. Sometimes it’s perfectly acceptable to sit back, simplify our minds, and say it’s okay

banana oats

…that in typical blogger fashion, you eat oatmeal for Breakfast most mornings

…that for the past week, all you’ve done for workouts is walk

…to have dreams about your future, without knowing exactly it is you want to do

granola

…to eat Breakfast for Dinner three nights in a row

…to be grateful where I am right now

may cause miracles

…to say no to plans because you just need some “me time”

…to know all the words in the movie Clueless

…to be content with not being perfect

pumpkin bread

…to bring snacks with you at all time

almond butter

…to ignore the serving sizes on nut butter

DSC03494

…to shamelessly take selfies with your favorite drink

…to replace water with vodka (on the weekends, of course)

…to strive to not be like everyone else

starbucks

…to go to Starbucks twice in one day.

…to love yourself

quinoa pasta

…to eat Lunch at 11 because you’re freaking hungry

…to be thankful for all I have in life

candle

…to celebrate the small things

…to wear the same thing two days in a row because “nobody saw you” the day before

glitter heels

…to consider your workout for the day walking around in heels

However, it’s not okay to miss a day without coffee;)

Instead of letting insignificant moments take over your day and turn them into a bad one, get rid of that pressure you feel to be perfect. It’s not going to happen, and you’re beautiful just the way you are. With all your quirks and silly behaviors because they make you you.

What helps you the most when you feel overwhelmed?

What’s something you do everyday that YOU truly enjoy as “me time”?

What are your “it’s okay” moments in your life?

Have a beautiful Thursday!

  1. Wonderful!! Such a beautiful post Lisa. And these high heels???? Oh woooow so pretty!! I want them :-)
I totally know that overwhelming feeling. If I have that I meditate and thentake one step at a time. This way I stay connected to my inner guide and know that it’s okay. Me time is meditation and a good workout or just curling up on the couch.

  2. Linz @ Itz Linz says:

I love this post! Particularly the part about wearing the same outfit since nobody saw you – I do it all the time!!

  3. Letting go of perfection and not worrying so much are two things I’ve been working hard on lately. That, and learning to love myself. This is a great post- maybe I should do one of these!

  4. AMEN to all of this!!! haha! And in fact, I did the wear the same thing twice because no one saw me thing just the past 2 days. ;)

PS – love the last thought on it not being okay without coffee. Sipping a cup right now. Have a great day, Lisa!

  5. Love this! I tend to get overwhelmed a lot and it’s been really helpful for me to take a step back and realize what’s going on. Journaling has been huge for me. I have also been slowly learning to embrace the concept of just aiming to be mediocre. No need for perfection with everything. Such a great reminder and I might have to use the hey it’s ok phrase when I struggle with these thoughts too :)

  6. This is an amazing post! There are far too many people/media outlets trying to tell us who we should be and what we should do (AND when we should do these things). It is time that we start listening to our bodies and to our needs. After all, everyone is different and everybody’s needs are different. One thing that is “right” for one person may simple be “wrong” for another. Awesome thoughts (as always), Lisa!

Oh, and ignoring the serving size on nut butters is an absolute must for me! ;)

    • Thanks so much Hannah!
So true, there are all these thing telling us what’s right when our own bodies know what’s the best thing for us!

  7. The outfit thing – so true! And oh my goodness, those SHOES. Tall and sparkly = my ideal going-out shoes. (and yes, they absolutely count as a workout).

  8. Do you take your food pictures on a pebble mat or is that an outside deck? Either way I love the way it looks!! My it’s okay moment is when I’m able to recognize when I need a break instead of overloading myself like in the past.

  9. Me time is waking up early… have my tea or latte, making a nice breakfast (whether it’s grains & greens, cereal, shake) and having time (even if just 10 minutes) to sit in front of my computer and read posts, pinterest, articles, etc. It’s my way of easing into the day. It’s even better when I’ve had a workout prior! And I smiled at the “lunch @ 11 thing” – I’m always ready for lunch then haha!

    • Yes, I love the feeling of waking up early and having those moments to yourself for some lovely quiet time.
      Definitely feel you on that!

  10. love it!!! so many of those things we do and think ;)
and wearing same clothes – totally guilty of that!
love ya girl! and thanks for the support through our face and skin issues, means so much to us! xoxo

    • Might as well represent the same clothes when no one sees you;)
Of course! I know what it’s like to go through those things!
      Love you ladies! xox

  11. Lisa your posts are always so lovely. Your blog always puts me in a good mood especially when Im feeling down. Thank you:)

  12. I am the snack queen so totally relate to that one.

  13. Definitely not okay to go a day without coffee ;) Even if I can’t make it into Bux, I always, always make sure to brew myself up some coffee at home. That being said, I very rarely don’t make it into Bux because a) I’m addicted to their cappuccinos, and b) sitting in the coffee shop and browsing the net or blogging is my ‘me’ time and I kind of like to make sure that it happens. Oh, and it’s perfectly okay not to go against the crowd and not eat many veggies because your stomach doesn’t enjoy them ;)

    • Same here!!
Basically you can find me there most of the time:)
Yep, I’m finding lately my stomach is rebelling against all those veggies…payback of sorts I suppose;)

  14. I am in awe you can walk around in those heels. Not only would I break my other knee, but my ankle, hip, and back would probably suffer consequences as well! I love wearing the same thing two days in a row because nobody saw you; after all, you’re saving water from decreasing your loads of laundry ;-) I’m okay with eating a chocolate chip cookies at 11:00 at night because they are delicious.

  15. Omg, your shoes are amazing! I am a total shoe girl :) I love all of the lines in this post. I totally have oats every single morning, vodka is a perfectly acceptable way to hydrate on weekends, I always have an apple or a protein bar in my bag and sometimes when it’s cold outside I love just plugging into my iPod and walking on the treadmill.

  16. Many of these were very true for me! – Oatmeal for breakfast? Wearing the same outfit twice in a row because no one saw me the day before? Yup and yup!

  17. Words of wisdom, Lisa!
Look at those pumps ;) ow ow!

  18. I don’t get nearly enough me time now I am sharing a house with friends (my own fault), but on weekends I like to take some me time by reading, writing a blog post or listening to new music.

When I am overwhelmed I tend to write lists, getting all down on paper – either that or I write in my journal. Getting it written down for me, gets most of it out of my system and I feel less stressed.

    • Those are great tips to wind down and get some you time in. It can definitely be more difficult when roommates or others are involved like that, but at least you can get some of that time in!

  19. I love this post! Oatmeal for breakfast and forgetting about serving size when it comes to peanut butter… describes me perfectly! The clothing thing is too funny, I think we have all done that.

  20. What a fabulous post! It’s all so true and completely relateable! My “me time” is usually the moment I get home from work. It’s my unwinding time. I immediately put on jammies and slippers and prepare my dinner. It’s peaceful, it’s relaxing, it’s all about me!
It’s so very important to stop whatever you’re doing in the middle of your day and remind yourself to be grateful! :)

  21. I have been looking to read may cause miracles for some time but felt like I wasn’t ready. How do you like it? My favorite thing to do on an overwhelmed day is take a bath, light a candle and have a vodka soda and just chill. Letting my mind wander off and once I get out of the bath I always feel calm, cool and collected. Best feeling in the world. Love and shine court star

    • I really like it! I definitely suggest waiting for a time you’re completely ready though. It was good to purchase and pre-read and then do it. Well, I found that worked for me. That way I knew what to expect:)
Oh, I love the idea of lighting a candle and having a nice relaxing vodka soda. Best feeling!

  22. LOVE this, Lisa! I actually laughed out loud when I scrolled past the line, “to wear the same thing two days in a row because ‘nobody saw you.’” I did exactly that today! And then what happened? Oh, I bumped into the one person who DID see me in that outfit yesterday. Haha! It didn’t bother me, though. I know she probably does it, too. ;)

Nut butter serving sizes are so silly. I eat a jar of peanut butter every week, which means I eat the equivalent of at least two or three servings every single day. Not to mention the other nut butters I eat in addition to that. My body craves copious amounts of nut butter, so that’s what I give it. :)

I can’t wait to start reading May Cause Miracles. I’m halfway through Spirit Junkie, and so far, I love it. Gabrielle Bernstein is so inspiring!

Umm, I adore those sparkly heels! SO fun! Love you, lovely! <3 xoxo

    • Haha, I love that that’s exactly what you did today. Great minds think alike?;)
Oh man, that’s too hilarious! I don’t even think I’d notice if someone wore the same day two days in a row. I’m not too observant like that.
Oh man, serving sizes I think on everything are dumb! I always eat double the amount of oats, nut butter, fruit, anything. Oopsy. I guess that’s what happens when you eat a lot though.
She’s such an inspiration, I love all her books:)
      xoxo

  23. This was a truly wonderful post Lisa and I found myself nodding yes to so many of the points you wrote… breakfast for dinner three nights in a row? Yeah I’m going on 5 tonight haha. Also bringing snacks everywhere, absolutely. Nut butter servings? I’m not even sure what that is ;) Not trying to be like everyone else and being okay with who you are… such easy concepts but difficult to achieve depending on the person/situation/etc. But you are right, those things really are okay and I appreciate that reminder, especially today and lately for myself

  24. Lindsay H says:

I needed this today. Thank you!

  25. Yes! I’m living in the “its okay” mindset right now. I’m so busy that things like… cleaning, laundry, and all that kind of stuff isn’t happening. I’m just telling myself… its okay.. life is busy now, but it won’t always be this way.

  26. LOVE LOVE LOVE this, I just finished reading the book Boundaries and though much of what is in the book is basic it made me realize it is ok to say no, set boundaries with yourself and others and NOT feel guilty about it! GREAT post!
