That Girl

We all know “that girl”. You know, the girl people project their judgements on. Possibly because she acts in ways you find odd, maybe you wish you had certain attributes or confidence “that girl” has.

We’re human, we sometimes judge others. Though it isn’t the best quality, it certainly happens to the best of us.

Have you ever been that girl who commits the very things you swear drive you crazy? I’m sure we’ve all fallen victim to this, at least at one time. We may not even realize it happening. Call it being a living contradiction, or just being human.

It’s easier to judge others than it is to judge ourselves. Our ego wants to avoid feeling uncomfortable, so we turn to judgement. Who are we to judge when we all in some way are that girl…

I know I’ve been that girl

Yep, I’m all these things and if you’d like to judge me for being that girl, go right ahead, we’re all entitled to our opinions;)

In what way are you “that girl”?

Do you ever find yourself committing the same actions you’ve judged others doing?

Enjoy this wonderful day!

  1. Love this! I try my best not to judges other but I know at some point we do fall suspect! I definitely do love a good workout and generally like to eat healthy! It’s just part of who I am ;)

  2. Oh man so many of those fit me pretty much to a T. I’m totally that girl that loves exercising, eating the same things, isn’t exactly the most confident with myself, struggles mentally but pretends everything is fine. I LOVE this post!

    • Thanks Sarah! You’ll get the confidence boost, it takes some time to allow yourself to be confident in your skin. No one can ever be a better you than YOU can! And that’s amazing in itself.

  3. I love this! Thank you for writing this! It’s so true.

  4. Love, love, love this!! Way to be proud and own who you are. There is nothing more beautiful than being YOU! :)

  5. a friend of mine and I were talking about this yesterday!! Crazy. I can be “that girl” too! I wish you lived closer so we could hang out! I know we would be good friends!

  6. LOVE this post (as always).

Judgement is a strange thing. It’s kind of necessary at times, because it allows us to make smart decisions about weather a person or a situation is safe or beneficial. But, we often take it too far and misjudge others to the point of harm! It’s a hard thing to get away from, so the most important thing is to not care about others’ judgement. They’re entitled to their opinion!

    • Judgement is definitely strange! It’s very true, I feel like everyone judges a little but it is seen so negatively. I do agree sometimes it’s necessary, but not to take things too far in bad ways and judgement of people based on little things they do is not the way to go either. Great points!

  7. i think we all judge unconsciously which I kind of hate, it is so hard to break that habit.

  8. I think we’ve all been that girl at one point or another. Like you said, judgment is pretty much inherent in our natures, and it’s hard to look at what someone else is doing without forming some kind of an opinion on it. That’s not necessarily a bad thing per say, but it can be if it causes us to act maliciously.

I enjoy salads, being active, looking good, spending nights in, chocolate, breakfast, flowers, Disney movies… I think that as long as you’re happy with who you are and confident in your choices, then what others think shouldn’t matter.

    • Exactly! Especially is we’ve experienced a bit in the past, it makes it easier to form a judgement amount someone or about what they are doing.
Totally agree that if you’re happy, it shouldn’t matter what others are saying!

  9. I think we all judge others unconsciously. Whether we’re judging their body shape or eating habits, we also judge along the lines of personality. It is shameful, and it’s sad that we live in a society where we tend to jump to conclusions, or assume that we ‘know someone’ because of certain habits of behaviours that we see them portraying. As bloggers, it’s something that we definitely open ourselves up to!

    • Yes! It’s sad that this is societies norm now. I wonder how it got to this way of judgement based. I guess with all the tabloids and just having that “negative” info out for the world to see, makes others feel that it’s okay? Who knows for sure.
Oh yes, for sure! I know that I won’t agree with what everyone says about me on my blog, but I chose to open myself up to it, so I never mind if someone wants to share a different opinion than me at all!

  10. I used to be “that runner girl” to almost everybody. I’m also that girl that drinks wayyy too much coffee and eats way too much peanut butter. I’m that “fit’ girl and recent months I became that really thin girl. When people say, “I want to look like that girl” I cringe because no, no they really do not want to be like me. Oof.

    • It’s okay we can be coffee twins. I happen to like my coffee and peanut butter;)
Oh man! I remember when I was at a bad point ED wise, people would always ask how I eat/exercise and it drove me insane! Like, they would never want to live in my head, or diet restrictions. Just no. Ha ha.

  11. Such a genuine post Lisa. We all judge and be judged – no matter how hard we try not to we just do it and its hard to accept it sometimes. I am That GIRL in many ways too- who likes to drink hot water at the restaurant or have a really complicated food/coffee order. And sometimes I want to be like THAT girl who is so perfect in every way- flawless skin, amazing baker, great girlfriend etc, etc etc

  12. cute post. i especially like that first starbucks pic.

  13. It is a cute post-I agree :)

  14. Did you write this post because you feel that some of the recent posts about questionable (i.e. disordered) habbits of HLB’s might have been directed, indirectly, at you? Not to be accusatory, just wondering if that is what you thought

    • Hey JJ. I actually wrote it because my friends and I were talking and they said something about a girl we know saying she’s one of “those girls” and I kind of wanted to dive further into that topic knowing exactly what they meant by “that girl”.
I never really looked at it from that point of view, but I suppose it probably did have to do with some of that too! Not necessarily thinking they were directing it at me. Thanks for asking!

  15. I don’t mind being “that girl”, I like what I like! And people are free to judge, but I make sure not to judge back because why not stop the negative energy in its tracks. :-)

  16. When I was a waitress I used to be so irritated by those people that had so many alters to a dish! Well now when ever I order food I have a lot of alterations as well and I always feel so guilty for judging those customers! Im also that “runner girl” and Im judged quite often about my mileage and how I should cut back or run more!

    • Oh gosh no kidding haha. It’s frustrating when you’re on the other side, but when you’re the customer you know what you want;)

  17. Boy am I with you on the beauty sleep! Working nights, I kinda have to snag the z’s whenever I can, but lately those pesky little buggers have been evading me…hence the reason I’m up at midnight even though I WENT to bed 3 hours ago! Grr!

I am definitely “that girl” who eats breakfast for dinner…ha, what am I saying, MOST of my meals are of the breakfast variety! Hey, being single has to have it’s perks, right? ;) And speaking of…thanks for reminding me that I still need to try your buckwheat bake! I almost forgot!

    • Oh man, when I used to work nights it was the worst. I seriously stayed up all night/day, I basically never slept haha. That got old quickly! I feel your pain!
Hey, I like that you’re “that girl” because I totally am too;)

  18. At school I was always ‘that girl’ that sat up front in class, asked the teacher if there was any homework (which got me a lot of death stares!) and spent most of her time in the library. Unfortunately, I attended a really small school, and this made me an outcast, so I tried to fit in with what everyone else wanted me to be, which was a big contributor to the development of my depression and eating disorder.

    • Haha, I think that’s awesome. I used to always sit in the front too. I get way too distracted in the back.
Aw, I’m so sorry you went through that. In high school those kinds of thing lead me into a horrible depression as well, so I can totally relate! If you ever want to talk, feel free to e-mail me:)

  19. First things first: I adore Lindt dark chocolate with sea salt! I go through three or four bars each week (I’m really not kidding), and never get tired of it. This love of chocolate (err, obsession) is one of many ways that I’m “that girl.” I know I’m just one of many HLB’s who feels strongly about her dark chocolate preferences/addictions! ;) But I’m totally okay with that–I’m okay with living up to a stereotype, because I *truly* love my what I love. I’m also okay with being “that girl” who’s different—who in some capacities, is nothing near the HLB stereotype. I stay up late and sleep in; I eat carbs before bed; I eat mayonnaise; I rarely shop at Lululemon. I’m not in any way ashamed of any of these habits, because I love them. They work for me. :)

Great post, love! I’m glad you’re owning YOU. <3 xoxoxo

    • It’s SOOO good! I just tried it like a few weeks ago, and definitely had to buy more!
Why did I avoid it for SO long, yikes. Not cool!
Totally with you on the dark chocolate addiction. Now I see the light!
I’m with you on eating carbs before bed! Always do, I usually eat toast, oat bran, or a muffin!
Exactly, if they work for you who the heck cares because you are amazing!
      Love you!!!! xox

  20. cute post!

  21. Great stuff here Lisa, very insightful and thought-provoking, which is of course two things I very much appreciate! I fall prey to judging people about certain things and then YEP, I turn around and do the same darn thing without really thinking twice. This is no good, judging is NOT Good in any aspect of it and it’s something I often do without even realizing it!

    • I think it’s all something we fall victim too, at least some of the time. It’s hard to help in some situations. Oops-y. Just another thing to be aware of and work on:)
