Sweet Potato And Turkey Chili

Chili is always one of my favourite dishes to experiment with, since it’s super quick to make and the combinations are endless. Perfect for those nights where you need a quick to make meal.

Sweet Potato and Turkey Chili


  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 large sweet potato, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 pound extra lean ground turkey
  • 1 cup low sodium vegetable broth
  • 14 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 3 zucchini, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon


  • In a large pot begin to heat the oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, brown the turkey.
  • Next, add in the zucchini and red pepper until softened slightly. You have the option of adding onions and garlic, but since I don’t enjoy them, I exclude them from this dish.
  • Once the veggies are softened, add the veggie broth, tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, and cubed sweet potato.
  • Cover the pot with a lid and bring to a boil. Once the pot has boiled, turn down to low-medium heat until the sweet potatoes are cooked.
  • When the sweet potatoes are tender add in the rest of the spices, stir to combine and turn the heat to the lowest setting until you’re ready to serve!

*If the chili is too thick by the end of cooking, you can add a little more veggie broth or water to thin out the consistency.

The cinnamon, cumin, and chili spices add such a great warmth to make this meal extra cozy.

  2. My favourite kind of chili is also turkey and sweet potato!!! I make a very similar recipe but my secret is to add a few pieces of dark chocolate to melt in at the end. The best!

  8. I love my pumpkin turkey chili, I don’t think I have tried adding chunks of sweet potato but I like the idea. I had sweet potato in a chicken and vegetable soup for dinenr last night.

  13. I love thick and hearty bean chilis. They are so comforting and mm, mm good! I’ve been eating a lot of comfort foods lately because it seems the chiller the air = the more comfort food. So bring on the mac and cheese, oatmeal, and waffles! :D

Since I went to Costco last Friday, I have been eating lots of my great finds, but also working on incorporating more carbs into my eating routine as I have been adding a lot more endurance training. I LOVE hearty chili topped with some cheese, Greek yogurt, and yummy bread or crunch chips on the side for dipping.

  21. I love vegetarian chili! Especially the kind that I can cook in the crock pot so my house smells amazing when I come home ;) I had a great recipe last year (that I can’t find…) that involved 4 different types of beans and quinoa and it was SO good!

  22. Chili is one of my favourite go-to dishes when it gets cold outside. My favourite so far would be vegan Bulgur/Couscous chili with a lot (!) of cumin. The amount I use is a little crazy but chili is about the spices after all, isn’t it?
