September Favorites

Thank you all so much for the super kind birthday wishes!!

It was a great birthday. The weather was gorgeous. I can still go outside in skirts! And people say Canada is too cold…;)

There’s something about October that makes my heart swoon a little bit. Its ultimately my favourite month of the year, well and December as well. And the good news is that it feels way more appropriate now to have multiple cans of pumpkin in my cupboard.

Here’s another round of my September favourites!

Almond Butter

Specifically in Pumpkin Spice Bars, but replacing the oat flour with almond butter. I’ve already made these twice more and I can’t stop eating them.

Kabocha

Did I really need to add this one?;) If you get your hands on Kabocha you need to roast it. I cut it into bite sized pieces and set my oven to broil. I line the kabocha on tinfoil (no oil needed) and sprinkle with cinnamon. Broil the squash for 10 minutes and turn down the oven to 425, where I allow the squash to roast for another 30-35 minutes. It comes out crispy and delicious.

Pumpkin Chai Tea

This chai tea has to be my favourite I’ve ever had. Its a little spicy, but sweet and it makes an excellent latte if you froth a little almond milk and stevia beforehand and add it into the brewed tea. It makes for a lovely treat while curled up on the couch.

Mental Margaritas

It’s a great way to add some refreshment to your mind and revamp that negative energy and turn it into positivity. Rejuvenate and refresh your mind, because it deserves to be treated with respect just like our bodies do. And if the mental margarita isn’t working, go ahead and have a real one:)

Mac Eyeliner in Teddy

[Source]

I love my makeup. This colour is subtle enough to use during the day, but can also be played up for night time effects. It’s a wonderful addition to a smokey eye and I love that I can wear it on my bottom lash line without it looking too harsh against my pale complexion.

Halloween Nails

[Source]

Now I haven’t actually tried this one, but these skeleton nails! Need. I am so going to bring this picture to my next manicure and ask to get this done. Its a must for Halloween.

Peplum Dresses

[Source]

At first, I was not into this fashion pick at all. After seeing it dress style and how flattering it is wearing it. I am totally in on this trend for Fall. I love how it creates a more unique look and is super versatile.

Diamond Push-Ups

[Source]

These are one of my new favourite moves. They activate my tricep muscles like crazy and I love adding new pushup variations to my fitness routine. By alternating the different types of pushups I’m doing, I am always targeting different muscles in my arms.

August Favourites

Holy moly, September has arrived. I say this every month, but I just can’t believe how fast 2012 is flying by.

Guess who’s birthday is less than a month away? Mine…I’m so excited for this year! I’m hoping to make some major strides in my goals and accomplish a lot.

We’re coming up on the last few days of summer. And now the excitement is coming that Autumn will be here soon! I’m pretty excited for fall to happen, but for now am enjoying the rest of this beautiful weather.

Here are some of my favourites of August.

Eggs

I used to really dislike eggs in anything, but have now embraced them in my diet. Not only are they nutritious, but they are delicious as well. And good with basically everything your pair them with.

Coconut anything…

 [Source 1],[Source 2]

Did you see this coming? I think this should be on my favourites every month. Butter, milk, flour, cream

Coconut is scrumptious in every way and every form.

If you don’t own any coconut products, go out and buy some this minute. Yes, right now.

Broccoli Slaw

I think Kristin got me hooked from all of her yummy looking broccoli slaw pictures. I pretty much eat this stuff everyday.

And it is the best when roasted in coconut oil and nutritional yeast. Just sayin’

Solo Muffins or Bars

As a single lady, I like to rely on muffins or protein bars made for one.

Since I don’t want to make a huge batch of baked goods, because I usually get sick of them after like 3 days. It’s fun to always make adjustments to simple recipes and create new flavours to enjoy.

Americanos

Yah, this one is implied.

I’m hoping for my birthday I get an espresso maker, so I don’t spend my whole pay-check at Starbucks. Not that I mind it though. It may be easier for those times I’m rushed in the morning.

White Dresses

[Source]

I think white is becoming the new little black dress.

It’s such a simple, clean look that you have the freedom to dress up for more elegant events. Or can dress them down for daily wear.

Princess Nails

[Source]

I love the look of the all pale pink nails with one sparkly, totally girly and so my thing.

Gone Girl

[Source]

If you haven’t  read this book, I highly recommend it.

Its the last book I’ve really been able to get into since reading 11/22/63.

Grimm

[Source]

I’m a sucker for cop shows, and this one includes suspense, mystery, and is fairytale-esque.

Its kind of weird if you’ve never seen it, but I like myself some weird things.

It’s really embarassing to try and explain this show to people, because I make no sense when trying and I  make it sound awful. I swear its good though.

Daily Meditation

[Source]

I’ve realized how important it is to set my alarm just 5 minutes earlier and allow myself to sit without thoughts for 5 minutes and repeat any mantra I want to set up an intention for the day.

It’s really only 5 minutes, not a huge time slot. Everyone can do it and it can make all the difference in my positivity. It allows me to get connected with my mind and allow myself to disengage from negative thoughts if need be.

July Favourites

Morning!

Good gosh, welcome to August.

Hey, remember how everyone last year was freaking out about 2012 being that last year in the world? Is that still happening? Haven’t heard about that in a while. Not that I care. It was just weird to hear people yammer on about that for centuries.

I’m excited about this coming month, its still summer and hopefully exciting things will be happening over here.

Since yesterday was WIAW, I missed out on telling you all about my July favourites.

Avocado

Self explanatory. This pudding is my life. Sub cottage cheese with greek yogurt though.

Coconut Butter

(Instagram is too fun – follow me!)

What is not to love about this butter? It is simple a whole lot of nice stuff. Creamy, delicious, and all the lovely benefits that come from coconut. I’m talking about improved hair, nails, skin, stress relief, digestion, and helps to prevent osteoporosis. Just to name a few positives.

Reuniting with Creamy Buckwheat Breakfast Bowls

Specifically, grinding up my buckwheat in my coffee grinder before hand (is it weird I have a coffee bean grinder, but no coffee maker?) and creating an oat bran consistency. Then cooking it up the same way I normally do with oat bran. Lovely.

Cut Out Dresses

These may not be fan favourite dress for everyone, but I personally am just loving the cut out style. Definitely not a work dress, but a going out dress. Subtle, yet fierce statement in clothing.

Bright Nails

I just love funky nails. Keeps things sassy. I also like the word sassy now. My love affair with bright polish was re-sparked when an older lady commented saying my nails made her smile.

Bachelor Pad

(Source)

Since the Bachelorette has sadly ended. Well, I guess happily for Emily, not so much for my Monday night TV love, I’ve had to rely on Bachelor Pad to keep me entertained. Its a hot mess of a show. I can’t believe some of the things people do on this show. How on earth can they land a job after some of the stuff aired on TV? And did anyone else recognize the twins from Jersey Shore? Oh man.

Honouring My Body

(Source)

This one is probably the most important favourite. When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I really want to do is get my workout on. I love having the option to get my exercise over first thing and having the rest of the day to do as I please.

That being said, with some health issues I’m working on improving, fitness has had to take a back seat. And while I don’t exactly like that I’m moving less, I know its the best for my body right now.

Pilates, yoga, and a weight training has become more of my fitness routine right now. Fitness will always be there for me when I am better and I know that while I’m not doing such high intensity right now, as soon as I’m healthy I can get back on board with those crossfit and high intensity workouts that I crave!

June Favourites

Happy Monday!

Wowza, can it really already be July 2!  I can’t believe the year is already more than half over.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed their weekends! And to all my Canadian’s, happy belated Canada Day!

Yesterday, I celebrated Canada Day at a friends house for a little bit, and decided to head home early. I’m just not one for the insane drunken crowds downtown and then having to wait 4 hours for a cab ride home. Yeah, that’s what happened last year. Not the best of times.

Here’s a list of some marvelous things this June has brought to me, perfect day to have my June Recap, because of course its Marvelous Monday! Thanks again to the beautiful Katie for putting this together.

I shared my favourite breakfast ever, vlog style.

I’m still eating this most days of the week. Superb.

The Bachelorette

Need I say more? It’s sad how much I look forward to Monday’s now. Hey, at least I don’t dread them, like some people do ;)

Bright Coloured Dresses (BCD’s)

I shared this on Thursday, but I honestly can’t get enough. There is a dress infatuation going on over here. And its not going to stop anytime soon. And this is just one of the many I have got going on right now…

Becoming a FitFluential Ambassador

(Source)

I am so happy I got the opportunity to become an ambassador in this awesome community! And can’t wait to share more and represent this title.

Coconut “Cookie Dough

Yep, its as delicious as it sounds. Bliss in my mouth.

CrossFit/GPP Style Workouts

(Source)

Since I am on a budget, I love getting workouts off of Crossfit sites. Some bloggers regularly share their WOD. I enjoy doing these or adjusting them if needed, so I’m able to do them at home.
I’m now in the lookout for some new equipment so I can do these type of workouts more often. Or, hopefully finding a good deal so I can try out an actual box around here.
Speaking of, I really want to try this workout. Perhaps tomorrow?

There are also some exciting things happening this July…

Katelyn is hosting an Eat Clean, Sweat Dirty challenge.

Katie is having a July instagram challenge.

Jenny has set up a 30 day blogging challenge.

July is looking like an awesome month so far!

What were your favourite things this June?
Anything significant you completed?

May Favourites

Hey there Friday, won’t you stay here for a while?! How’s all your day’s going? Good, I am hoping.
It’s that time again it is June 1st! What the…this year is just passing by WAY too quickly, it seems like just yesterday I was ringing in the new year.

Why is it when you get older the years go by faster? And can you believe we are now half way through 2012!! It’s mind boggling to me!
So here we are at the end of May, I thought I’d throw together a post of my favourite May things.

Food

  • coconut anythinggg - butter, oil, and flour are by far my favourites. I eat one of these products at least once a day

Workouts

Workout Song

Fashion

  • colourful dresses and dresses in general, dress addiction does in fact exist.

(Source)

Makeup

  • mascara – specifically diorshow mascara, if I could take one makeup product to a deserted island it would have to be mascara; I just can’t live without it

(Source)

TV Show

(Source

  • the bachelorette – I actually really like Emily this season, I know lots of people don’t, but she’s really sweet, down to earth, and I think her heart is in the right place. Plus who wouldn’t want to be on the show when your budget on clothing is $350,000? I’d sign up for all that.

That’s it for my May favourites. Hope everyone is enjoying their day and you all have fun plans for this weekend!!

What are you favourites for May?
P.S. Isn’t it weird how in the UK and Canada we have a u in favourite, colour, etc. and in the US you don’t do that?
Okay, random tangent, and no one probably cares…

xox,
Lisa
