Hello! I am alive! I did it – I ran 30 miles yesterday!

I ran the born to Run 50k yesterday. as well as it was rather the experience.

I wished to run this race for a number of reasons…

1. I liked the book born to Run

2. Tarahuarmara, the group the book is based on are from Mexico just like my great-grandparents.

3. The race is in Los Olivos, CA – hi I am Olivas. It’s fate, right?

So Friday night I packed up my stuff as well as headed to Los Olivos,CA

We made it around 10pm on Friday night as well as it was pitch black. You had to open the entrance to drive in as well as there were cows just standing best there staring.

I made camp as well as then hit the sack.

4:14am – Wake as much as gun shots!

4:15am – Mariachi music starts blasting.

Guess it’s time to get up.

There weren’t a great deal of porta-potties thinking about people were racing as well as camping there, however it worked.

I walked over the get my bib – this was one perk of staying on site. very easy.

Then, we were off!

This wasn’t just my very first path race it was my very first path RUN.

And it Camiseta Boca Juniors was 30+ miles of trail. I ran the very first hill as well as 99% of the other people were walking.

Then, I was sluggish coming down the hill since of all the rocks (downhills are typically my thing).

Around mile 3 I realized…

I have no freakin hint what I’m doing!!

So I told myself, “You are going to have your ass handed to you today, get ready…”

Luckily I stuck to my “If you believe you’re going as well slow, sluggish down.” plan.

I practically got lost when however somebody behind me shouted at me that I started to go the wrong method as well as I got back on track. ‘

There were pink as well as yellow ribbons on trees that you were expected to view out for each half mile or so.

I ran solo the very first couple of miles up until Steve as well as two of his friends caught as much as me. I stayed with them for the very first 10 from there. Steve told us when to run as well as when to walk the hills.

Ultra-marathon aid stations are extremely different from half or marathon aid stations in that:

1. There is a great deal of “real food” not just gels as well as energy drinks.

2. people stop as well as eat, drink, hang out for a bit.

This was strange to me since I have grasped the art of running with an aid station.

3. The aid stations are extremely spread out / there are less of them.

*Fuel stop working – I didn’t take any type of fuel with me for miles 10-20. NOT good.

On the next loop out I lost Steve as well as his peeps so I was solo. At this point runners are extremely spread out so I went for a while without running near anybody else.

At Mile 19ish at the aid station I caught back up with Steve as well as we ran a mile together.

Finally at this point I got some fuel as well as dipped a potato in salt for sustenance.

Then, I took off – I discovered my 3rd wind as well as felt great!!!

I ran past 3 men who were quite spread out on a long flat stretch. I was feeling remarkable up until mile 24 when I started to get tummy cramps. I took a bit of the gel I had at mile 25, however just couldn’t do it.

I tried to make myself run as much of the flat sections as possible, however my tummy hurt up until the end. I even walked the last half mile-ish as well as kinda dislike myself for that.

Once I crossed the surface line I didn’t even get my ‘medal’ – I walked directly to the porta potty line as well as my good friend Russ was yelling at me, “Come get your medal! Where are you going?”

Finally, I went back to the finish.

New PDR (personal distance record)

Official time was 5:45:21 – I stopped my view during my 2 restroom breaks out of habit.

The ‘medal’ is really a handcrafted amulet! as well as when the man puts it on you he states a bit speech about it being lucky. I’m not typically a fashion jewelry girl, however I never want to take this off!

At the end I was dirty as well as stiff. however I was likewise truly pleased as well as happy of myself

After the race we took a drive to Los Padres as well as I went in the river as a makeshift ice bath! So pleased I did that.

Then, we went into town for food. There were cupcakes…

and Sangria.

Then, much more sangria back at camp.

We just hung out from there…

One of my peeps, Hector was running the 100 mile race! He is the best. We applauded on the other runners as they came by as well as it was truly inspirational.

Huge thanks to Leann from the Sole Runners for putting so much work into organizing everything!

Overall thoughts…

It was rough. I had NO concept the art of path running or ultra fueling or ultra pacing. I have a great deal of learn. But, I do kinda want to discover so I believe I may perhaps do it once again at some point in the far-off future. however that’s not my focus as of best now.

Most significantly – I had a BLAST!!! Camiseta Tigres UANL I went into it understanding it would be an experience as well as it was.

I made a video of my experience…
